The Family Trip
This is the day Dave and his family went on a peaceful family trip. Going to the Russion River was a milestone in David's life because this is the last time in a while where he would experience freeness and happiness. David compared his family to the "Brady Bunch family". -
David's Arm
As time passed David's mother got more and more vicious. The things she had done to him are things that no one or no child should endure. His mother was an alcholic and the things she would do to him were unpredictable and torturous. One day she even dislocated his arm and forced him to tell everyone he fell off his bed. -
"I was the king"
The abuse was getting more and more extreme. His mother forced him to burn his arms on the stove. He finds a way to almost stall his mother until his brothers come home.The day he stalled his mother was a victory. He felt he had achieved at least something. His brother came home and she gave up. Dave liked to say " I was the the king" because he felt like he won for once against his mother. -
School time
Dave goes finally goes back to school. He needed some sort of a break from his torterous mother. His mother didn't even buy him any new clothes for school. All of his clothes by now were ripped up and dirty. He had many bruises but he lied about all his injuries because his mother would make him -
No food
His mother started to invent more of her sinister "games". She starved David for days and days, and sometimes gave him leftovers from his brothers. David was getting very sick and weak and he was suffering. -
The Last family trip
This the second and last family trip. Even on this trip David was still abused. His mother wouldn't let him have any part of the trip and he felt miserable. The trip David always looked foward to was now the worst trip of all. -
"The boy"
David's was just a nobody to his mother. She didnt even call him a son anymore. He couldnt even talk to his dad or brothers or even look at them. He didnt want to live anymore. He thought this was it he could never be free. David hates his mother at this point. -
Dad is gone
While his dad is gone the beatings get worse and worse. David's last option is to steal from other kids. His mother only beats him even more. By now David knows what's coming to him. When he seeks for his dads help, his mother would not allow them to communicate anymore. He has to sleep in the dark and uncomfortable garage in agony. -
Near death experience
David Pelzer's mother was an emotionally disturbed alcholic and the things she could do were unpredictable. One day she is so angry she stabs Dave "by accident". She lets Dave languish in pain and sadness. Searching for help he tells his father who just tells him to continue doing his chores. -
Gas Chamber
His mother made up another one of her "games". The gas chamber was when she put harsh toxic chemicals in a bucket to let Dave breathe them in. He could've died doing this. -
No more dad
David has to do everything for his mother. He is treated like a slave and he can't escape. David's mom has a new baby and soon after that his dad leaves forever and abandons the family. There's no more hope. David was furious that his dad left. His dad was free and he was not. -
Free at last
Dave's mother constantly abuses him everyday. The school nurse notices something in Dave. He's keeping a secret. His mother forces him not to tell anyone of the beatings, so he makes up things so she looks good.The people and teachers at the school were concerned and they didnt want him to get hurt anymore.They kept him in the custody of San Mateo Juvenile Department and they told him he was finally free from his mother's evil ways.
