Born in Corpus Christi, Texas, Freese was raised in the St. Louis area. He grew up a fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.

He graduated from Lafayette High School in Wildwood. Freese recorded a Lafayette record with a .533 batting average and 23 home runs during his senior season.

As Davids senior year winded down, he got a scholarship from Missouri but declined the scholarship because he was burnt our of the game. His freshman year of collage he attended Missouri and was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

After his freshman year at Missouri, he transferred to St. Louis Community College, (meramec) a junior college, where he played for one season. Freese hit .396 with 41 runs batted in (RBI) and 10 home runs and was named to the National Junior College Athletic Association All-America second team.

David was very successful his senior year hitting .414 with a .503 OBP and .661 SLG with 73 runs and 73 RBI in 60 games. He won the SBC batting title and led the conference in RBI. He tied for ninth in Division I in RBI, was 12th in average and just missed the top 10 in runs scored. He made the All-Conference team at third base and was named SBC Player of the Year.

Freese was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the ninth round (273rd overall) of the draft.

Before the 2008 season, Freese was traded by the Padres to the St. Louis Cardinals where he grew up. He spent the season with the Memphis Redbirds of the Triple-A Pacific Coast League

On Opening day in 2009, David played in his First Major league game for the Cardinals. Though Freese had the start on opening day, he was not named their started through out the rest of the season.

After Freese being the starter of the 2011 season. He missed some games because of getting hit by a pitch in the regular season. He was able to comeback for the Cardinals in the postseason where he played a big role in to 2011 World Series.

In game 6 of the 2011 World Series, David Freese went above and beyond and played a key role into their game 6 win. In the bottom of the 9th, David came up to bat with runners on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs. He had 2 strikes on him. When the pitch came in, he slapped it the other way and hit the wall for a 2 out 2 RBI triple to tie the game and go into extra innings. Going into the 10th inning, David was leading off the inning with a walk-off home run to go into a game 7!

In 2014, David was traded and sent to the LA Angles. and spent 2 years with them.

After Davids contract was over in 2016, the Angles did not re-sign him. He was offered a contract in Pittsburgh and now plays for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
