Magna Carta
King John gave land to some higher class people and expected them to pay taxes, support the army and obey him in return. The nobles felt like he was abusing his powers and taxing them too much. They make him sign the Magna Carta forcing him to obey the laws and limiting his powers. -

Bicameral Parliament Created in England
Henry lll met regularly with a group of citizens for advice and help gonerning. Over time, this group became known as parliament and began making laws for the country. -
Glorious Revolution
In 1688 Parliament removed King James from power and gave the throne to William and Mary. -
Eglish Bill of Rights
Parliament wanted to be sure that no King or Queen could ever try to take back their power and become too powerful. they created the English Bill of Rights. This said only Parliament could make laws, raise taxes, and control the army. -
Boston Tea Party Protestiing Britain's Rule
Government was taxing even for tea, they couldn't be their own country. -
U.S Declares Independence from Britain
U.S is free and don't have to follow Britain's rule. -
Articles of Confederation is Approved
The first type of Government for the U.S., it did not give much power to the central Government. -
Shays Rebellion
Daniel Shays rebells against a Mass. courthouse because the judge is making the farmers pay taxes them back for their crops. He is thrown in jail. -
Constitional Convention
A group of men get together to discuss new types of laws that would give the central government more power but people would still contain their rights. -
The Great Compromise
They had representation equal like the New Jersy plan but the House of Rep. was based on population like the Virginia plan. -
America Divided; Federalists and Anti-Federalists
The Constitution is released and causes controversy around the nation. People take the side of Anti-Federalists which did not approve of the Constitution or the Federalists, who approved or ratified the Constitution. -
United States Constitution is Ratified
The Constituition is passed.
