    The gang is accused of "phishing" aka stealing €170,000 from 4 people who responded to a fake email asking for bank details. The cash was subsequently transferred to the accountsof gang members.
  • Former Refugee killed after being deported to Afghanistan

    A 60-year-old Afghan man who was deported back to Afghanistan in 2006 after a five-year battle to stay in the
    Netherlands was murdered by the Taliban.
    Immigration minister Rita Verdonk denied him permission to stay in the Netherlands, even though he was was a known opponent of the Taliban.
  • 12-year-old gives birth on school trip

    A 12-year-old girl gave birth during a school trip after complaining of stomach cramps. She had not previously known that she was pregnant. Her and her child were reported to be healthy.
  • Court decides that Catholic schools can ban wearing Muslim headscarves

    Courts decides that a Catholic school in Volendam is within its rights to ban a 15-year-old girl from wearing an Islamic headscarf. The court said the ban is in line with the school's wish to preserve its Catholic character. The school is not limiting freedom of expression or discriminating against the girl on religious grounds.
  • Gay couple driven from their home take action against council

    Two gay men who say they were forced to move because of their neighbours who are holding Utrecht city council, and claiming that the police and the Dutch state legally responsible. The two men say the authorities should have reacted more appropriately to the eight reports of criminal damage to their property made between summer 2009 and 2010.
    They are currently in a legal process to force the police to take action against the perpetrators. They also plan to recover some €40,000 in damages.
  • Six killed, 11 injured in Alphen aan den Rijn shopping centre Shooting

    At least six people have been killedand 11 have been injured in a shopping centre in Alphen aan den Rijn by a gunman who sprayed passersby with an automatic weapon. The shooting happened at the busy Ridderhof centre just after midday. According to media reports, the man ran shooting through the shopping centre and then shot himself in the head using a different gun.
