Sputnik was the first artificial satellite to be launched into space. The only thing sputnik contained was a small radio transmitter that beeped at regular intervals. The design was based on a weapon used by Germany during WW2, the V2. After a year of the launch, President Eisenhower made NASA. This started the space race between the worlds superpowers. The wall represented oppression and division. The purpouse of the wall was to stop people from leaving East Germany. 2.6 million people have already left before the wall's build. There were not many skilled workers in Berlin, making the area suffer. The wall was meant to contain the poor people of Berlin, but according to German propaganda the wall was meant to keep people out. This is important to the cold war because Berlin is like an island in Germany. It sticks out.

The threat of the Soviet Union space missiles was out shadowed by US moon landing. https://www.britannica.com/topic/Apollo-11

NASA has been behind the Soviet Union on the space race. This is America's only time they got a leg up. Three astronauts, Buzz Aldrin, Michael Collins, and Neil Armstrong, board the Apollo 11 space ship. The space ship became two parts as they approached the moon. One part was piloted by Collins and the other, this part being the lunar lander, being piloted by the other two astronauts. This was important to the cold war because it was what gave the US an advantage.
