    Magna Carta

    Magna Carta
    Nobles forced the king to sign an agreement called the 'Magna Carta.This document protected the noble's priveleges and authority, or control. It also granted certain rights to all landholders which is equal treatment under the law and trial by one's peers. The "Magna Carta" limited the power of the monarch by guaranteeing that no one would be above the law.The constitution would use this for same rights and limiting monarch (the government).
  • Mayflower Compact

    Mayflower Compact
    lymouth colonists realized they needed rules to governthemselves in order to survive in a new land.Came up with written plan for government.The Mayflower compact was signed by 41 of the men. The Constitution as is the Mayflower Compact were formed on the same bases. The bases of equality and the fact that everyone was created equal
  • Fundamental Orders of Connecticut

    Fundamental Orders of Connecticut
    America's first written constitution. Called for assembly of electe reprsentatives and the popular election of governor and judges. The writers of the constitution could ue this as an model for the Constitution.
  • Glorious Revolution

    Glorious Revolution
    Parliament removed King James II and replaced him with his daughter, Mary.This showed that the Parliment was now stronger than the monarch.It was a peaceful transfer of power;no ruler would have more power than Parliament. The writers of the constitution could take that if a someone with higher power is abusing them then the people can veto them;shows that citizens have more power.

    English Bill of Rights
    The Parliament drew up the English Bill of Rights in 1689.The document further restricted the monarch's power.Guaranteed 3 rights; free elections to parliament, rights to a fair trial, elimination of cruel and unusual punishments. The writers of the Constitution could use the idea of the 3 rights which one of them is in the US which is free elections to presidents,senator,etc basically any governmental.

    John Locke
    He argued that people were born free,equal,and independent. Believed people possessed rights called natural rights that no government could take away;rights included life,liberty,and property. The writers of the Constitution could use the idea of his natural rights and people borning with free,equal,and independent.
  • Baron de Montesquieu

    Baron de Montesquieu
    He developed the idea known as Seperation of power. Dividing the government into different parts so that no one part can become too strongor threaten individual rights.The writers of the constitution coud use the idea of diving the government.

    He wrote The Social Contract.Argued people alone had right to decide how they should be governed. The writers of the constitution could use some parts of The Social Contract.
