Finally, with the aim of disturbing the minds of them, provoking nightmares in the worst cases. Nowadays, This type of actions still been part of our culture, but on minor level, just for entertainment. -
The way to call "discipline" in the past
They're many examples about the ideology of discipline at that time. One of them was the educative system. For example: beating schoolchildren, called “horsing” in 19th-century English schools, was a normal and common practice for many years. For a good reason, this practice was eradicated, mainly, because it attempts against children's life and is considered a form of violence. -

Actually, the use of this "inventions" are totally unnecessary. Basically, because, when a kid grows up they explore their body touching it. -

World Conference on Education for All
In 1990, the International Literacy Year, about 1,500 delegates from 155 countries and representatives of some 150 governmental, non-governmental and intergovernmental organizations met at the World Conference on Education for All in Jomtien, Thailand, and called upon all countries to universalize adequate basic education.
