There were no railroads, but there was one in Golden. Some people had built a railroad to Denver to get them to Denver. The first rivers in Denver are the Cherry Creek River and the South Platte River. A women named Horace Greely went to Denver to investigate on Denver. Denver was a very important place in 1800.

    Dred Scott Sued his owner to recive freedom for him and his family. Dred's argument was that he lived in a place in which slavery was illegal, so therefore he could not be employed as a slave. But,because Dred was born a slave, and had lived in a former slave state, the court ruled against him.     .The Pikes Peak gold rush started in 1858. later in the gold rush there were rumors about gold. The people took 14 wagons pulled by 33 yoke oxen, 2 horses and 20 saddled horses.

    : When the people in the claim clubs decided that they wanted a new territory they sent bills to Congress in 1858-1859 all the bills failed. In April of 1859 miners and famers from different communities decided that the Pikes Peak area had to become a state. The new name for the state would be Jefferson. There was a large number of go-backs (people returning home), because everyone wasn’t getting what they needed (gold, water, and food). This helped Colorado become a state. M4

Claim clubs were worried about Indian attacks, and the clubs hide for safety. Lots of people liked the claim clubs but the people wanted Colorado to be a separate territory that made it longer to be a state.

The nickname of Colorado is the centennial state, because the day Colorado because the territory was a state on the united states birthday.

  • Mining Towns of Colorado

    The town of Ward brought people to Colorado and so did many other mining towns that are still here. The town was settled in 1860, and that was 17 years before we became a state. The primary minerals are silver and gold. The population was several thousand people.
    Silver Plume was also a great town to collect silver. They settled in 1870 and the primary mineral was silver. The peak population is was about 2,000.

    Here are some mining towns and some good facts about them. Aspen is one of them. In 1878 Aspen caused a stir in Colorado. Also it is one of the biggest mining towns in history!
    Another one is Cripple Creek. Cripple Creek was a gold camp for miners. They found the latest gold discoveries in 1900. Another one is Cokeadale. It is still open for mining. They mine for coal. It has a population of 1,500 people. They have been mining for over 40 years. bl hh 4f

    Freight wagons, pack trains, and roads helps the population of Colorado become greater. In 1865 the pack trains came to help people travel from place to place. Then after the pack trains then came the freight wagons to help out they each traveled different places when people needed transportation.     The transcontinental Railroad helped Colorado. It is a train that goes through the country. I starts at the Atlantic Ocean and ends at the Pacific Ocean. The purpose is to bring stuff to the mining districts. It was help villagers to get to Colorado. It got the villagers to places quicker and cheaper. The path originally did not go through Colorado. They made feeder tracks. That’s how it helped villagers get to Colorado. Railroads really helped Colorado become a state.

    Chaffee Convinces US Congress to allow territory to become state
    In March 1875, Chaffee was completing a term as territorial representative from Colorado in Congress and he was able to push through an enabling act in his final week in office. To do that, he had to convince Congress that by 1875, Colorado had 150,000 people. By the time the 1880 census figures were published (and showed Colorado to have194, 000 residents).
