  • Founding of Jamestown

    It was the first permanent English settlement in North America.
  • Creation of the House of Burgesses

    It was the first elected legislative assembly of the New World and originated in Jamestown. It enacted leglislation for the colony of Virginia.
  • Founding of Plymouth

    A group of about 100 english men and women sailed on the Mayflower, later landing in what is known as Massachusetts. There was a harsh winter that killed most of the settlers, but the remaining were able to build a good economy and make peace treaties with native americans
  • Pequot War

    It waws the first conflict between indigenous people and settlers in New England. English Puritans sourrounded a pequot village called Mystic. The village burned and 400-700 men, women and children died that night.
  • Fundamental orders of Connecticut

    The orders describe the government set up by the Connecticut River towns, setting its structure and powers. It's like the constitution, later giving connecticut the nickname The Constitution State.
  • Toleration Act of 1649

    Passed by the assembly of Maryland. It was the second law requiring religious tolerance in the British North American colonies and created the first legal limitations on hate speech in the world.

    They were a series of laws that restricted the use of foreign shipping for trade between England and its colonies.
  • King Philips War

    It was a war between colonists and the Native Americans in New England. The war is named after the main leader of the Native Americans.
  • Bacon's Rebellion

    It was the first rebellion in the American colonies. It was against the rule of Governor William Berkeley. The main reason was because of his recent refusal to retaliate for a series of Indian attacks on frontier settlements.

    This was an attempt to better control the uncooperative trade and religious practices in several unruly colonies.
  • Salem Witch Trials

    They were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in Massachusetts.
  • Peter Zenger Trial

    He was a famous printer for the New York Weekly Journal. He published his opinions and later he got in trouble for making opinions on colonial governor, William Cosby. He soon was arrewsted and put on trial for it, ordered by Crosby.
  • Great Awakening

    It refers to several periods in time of religious history. There were 4 main events that were focused on during this time, an they involved Protestant ministers, an increase of interest in religion, an increase in church membership
  • Stono Rebellion

    Stono Rebellion
    60 to 100 slaves revolted against slave owners. As a result of this, South Carolina's lawmakers enacted a harsher slave code making them more miserable.
