President Truman orders the develpment of hydrogen bomb
On the 31st of Janurary President Truman annouced that he had directed the atomic agency to continue work on all forms of atomic enrgy weapons. Thats when the hydrogen bomb was introduced to our warfare. -
Korean War starts
Armed forces from North Korea smash into South Korea setting off the Korean War. United States quickly sprang into defense of South Korea and for the next three years fought with South Korea in the Korean War. -

Since people needed a new way for charging money Frank McNamra came up with the first modern credit card. He thought to himself that it would be really helpful if you could use a peice of plastic to pay for stuff so thats when the credit card was introduced. -

In 1955 when the Africa Americans were not being treated the same as the whites, Rosa Parks dissobeyed the bus drivers whcih was for her to get up and let a white person sit in the sit but she said no. She got arreseted and went to court. -

The State University of Iowa completed the balloon that will rech high latitudes to reseach. James Van Allen reported the research that had been received. First NASA equipment was tested for the first time above earth. -
Cuban Missile Crisis
On October of 1962 American spy planes captured photos of nucleur missiles being bulit by the Soviet Union on the island of Cuba. Kennedy wanted to quareteen as he called it. He demanded the removal of the missiles. He ordered a naval blockade. But no one knew how Nitkita Khrushchev would respond to the blockades. -
JFK Assasination
On November 22nd Americans loved thier young president John F. Kennedy, on that day he was assianated by Lee Harvey Oswald while riding a motorcade through Dallas Texas. After the first shot was fired in his throat, a second shot was fired that missed, the last shot hit him in the head and killed him. His wife reached back to grab a part of his brain after the last shot that hit his head. Two days later Lee Harvey Oswald was shot and killed by Jack Ruby during a prisoner transfer. -
Detriot Riots
The Detriot Riot started when police officers exceuted a raid. They were expecting to round up 2 patrons but instead they found 82 peole inside holding a party. As the police officers waited for the clean up crew the rest of the peopl came in to protest. A Riot started. At the end of 5 days there were 43 dead, 1189 injured and over 7000 people had been arrested. -
Martin Luther King Jr. Assasination
On April 4th, 1968, civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. was hit by a snipers bullet. Martin was standing on his balcony in Tennesee when he was shot by a .30-caliber. The bullet entered kings right cheek, travled through his neck and stopped at his shoulder blade. King was taken to the hospital immediatley and was pronouced dead at 7:05 p.m. Violence followed after that with blacks taking the streets with massive wave of riots. James Earl Ray was taken in but many belive he was innocent. -
First Man on Moon
The first man to walk on the moon, Neil Armstrong became the first person to do so. Apart of the Apollo 11 mission, Neil Armstrong became the first to walk on the moon. Thier acomplishment placed the United States ahead of the soviets in the big Space Race. -
Terriost Attack in Olympic games
Early in the morning eight members of the Palestian terriost organization snuck into the Olympic village at the XXth Olympic Games in Germany. They raided the building house of the Israely athletes. Two Israely athletes were killed during the raid and nine others were taken hostage. During the rescue a shoot out was taken place and all nine hostages were killed during it, and five of the Black September members were killed. -
Elvis Found Dead
Singer Elvis Presley was found dead at his home in Graceland in Memphis. His body was found by his girlfreind Ginger Alden in the up stairs bathroom. All efforts to revive Elvis were futile. Elvis had probaly been dead for hours before his body was found. Elvis was pronouced dead at 3:30pm by his physician George Nichopoulos. -
Jones Town massacre
Peoples Temple cult leader Jim Jones instructed his followers to commit suicide by drinking cyanide-laced fruit punch. At the Jonestown compound in Guyana 912 members who drank the punch died. 276 of them were children. Jim Jones was killed the same day by a gunshot to the head. -
Three Mile island
In 1979 three mile island nuclear power plant in USA a cooling malfunction caused a part to melt in the reactor. Some radioactive gas was released a couple of days after the accident, but not enough to do anything to the residents. There were no injurys or health issues from the Three mile island accident. The three mile island power station was located in Harrisburg Pennsylvania. -

Iran took over 60 Americans hostage. The hostages were realesed after Ronald Regan took oath as President 444 day later. The crisis absorbed more concentraded effort by American officals and had more extensive coverage on tv and in the press than any other eevnts since World War 2. -
Attempt Assasiantion of Ronald Reagan
On March 30, 1981, 25 year old John Hinckley Jr. opened fire on the president Ronald Reagan outside of the Hilton Hotel. He was hit by one bullet which punctured his lung. Three others were also wounded during the shooting. There was a total of 6 shots fired with Hinckleys .22 caliber pistol. The secret service didnt think that he would need a bullet proof vest. -
First Women appointed to Supreme Court
President Reagan appointed Sandra Day O Conner to be the first women on the US Supreme Court. Sandra was officaly sworm in and took her seat on the US Supreme Court on September 25, 1981. -
US Embassey Bombed
A suicide bomber drove a truck with 2000 pounds of explosives into a US Marine Corps barrack. The explosion killed 220 Marines. A few minutes after that bomb went off a second bomb went off at the nearby French barracks killing 58 people. FOur monthes later American forces left for Lebanon. -
Space shuttle challenger explodes
At 11.38 am on Tuesday the Space Shuttle Challenger launched from Kennedy Space Center in Florida. The Challenger took off and 73 seconds later the air craft exploded in mid air. All seven members of the crew died in the disaster. When they did a investigation they found out the o rings of the right solid rocket booster had malfuncted. -
Berlin Wall Falls
East German governent offical Gunter Schaboski stated that the west border was open. People were shocked when they heard the news. They all went to the border to see if all the news were true and when they found that it was true they went through it and the border guards just let them because they had no instructions. As the news spread, people on both sides of the wall came to the wall the celebrate. -
Gulf War
On July 17 Iraq leader Saddam Huessein accused Kuwait and the united Arab Emirates of flooding the oil market. He ascused the Kuwait of stealing oil from Rumalia. This started a economic war.On August 2 Iraqi military forces invaded Kuwait. US involvment in the situation was immediate. -

Two German tourist were hiking in the Otzal Alps near the border when they found a icemen sticking out of a glacier. The icemen had been mumified by the ice. Research on the icemen showed that he was from the copper age. -
Oklahoma CIty Bombing
On April 19 1995 a truck bomb explosion at the Alfred P. Murrah Federal building killed 168 people and hundreds left injured. The bomb was set off by a anti government militant Timmothy McVeigh. -

After 14 hours of President Cliton debating the House of Reps approved two articles to impeach the president. Charging him with lying under oath to a federal grand jury. Cliton being the second president to be impeached, vowed to finish his term. -
Columbine Shooting
Two students of Columbne highschool planted bombs and open fired on students within there school. The boys planned on killing hundreds during the killing spree and didnt have succeed in killing large numbers because the bombs didnt explode. Before the boys killed themselves they killed twelve students and one teacher. This was the first mass student shooting on a US campus. -
Shoe Bomber
It was a scream that people noticed. Richard Reid is known as the shoe bomber. He attempted to detonate explosives packed into the shoe he was wearing. He tried to set it off on the flight 63 from Paris to Miami. Reid pleaded guilty in U.S federal court to eight crimes of terrorism. He was sentenced to prison without parole. -
9/11
On September 11 the Twin Towers were attacked by terriost group al Queda. Two plans were highjacked and were flown to the World Trade Center where they were hit by the planes. 2,996 people were left dead after this attack. A third plane hit the pentagon which killed 125 people and a fourth plane was wrecked in a field. A total of 19 highjackers were killed. -
Iraq War
The Iraq war started March 20 2003 by an invasion force led by the United States. Iraq was thought to have weapons of mass destruction which posed a threat to our security. Some officials accused Osama Bin Lain the Iraq president of harboring and supporting Al Qaeda, but no evidence was ever found. That started a war. On October 21 president Barak Obama announced all troops to be sent home. -
2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami
In 2004 the Indian Ocean earthquake occurred. The earth quake was caused by the Indian plates was subducted by the Burma Plate and triggered a series of devastating tsumnis around the coast. The earthquake killed over 230,000 people in 14 countries, which is one of the deadliest disasters in recorded history. Indonesia was the hardest hit by it. The earth quake had the longest duration of faulting ever observed. It lasted between 8 to 10 minutes. It even triggered Alaska earthquakes. -
Osama Bin Ladin Death
A manhunt for Osama Bin ladin is over after nearly 10 years after 9/11. The U.S troops killed Osama inside of pakistan. At the time of his death Osama was living in a Mansion that was highly armered, just a mile away from Pakistans army acedamy. 25 navy seals were sent out by Joint Special Operations Command.
