    Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan
    USA, Turkey, Greece, and Western Europe are included in these events. In the Truman Doctrine the U.S. gave 400 million dollars to Greece and Turkey to stop the spreading of communism. The Marshall Plan was 12 billion dollars to rebuild Western Europe. The Truman Doctrine took place in March 1947 and the Marshall Plan April 1948. This was important because Europe appreciated the money and communism stopped spreading. This affected our economy because we lost money, but for a good cause.

    Jackie Robinson
    Jackie Robinson was born in Georgia, 1919. Jackie Robinson was the first African-American professional baseball player. He played for the Brooklyn Dodgers and is one of the best known baseball players. Jackie Robinson was the National League MVP in 1949. He also won rookie of the year in the 1947-1948 season. Jackie Robinson got his number retired from all MLB teams, which means no one can wear it. He is also remembered on April 15th every year on Jackie Robinson day where all players wear 42.

    Many Americans were interested when TV's came out to buy. They could watch game shows, Sports, and more. Although many people were mad with them calling them idiot boxes and boob tube. In 1948 there were only 17,000 TV's in households, in the 1950's there were about 50 million. Families started to stay up later to watch show and in 1954 TV dinners became a thing. This affected Society because people had a source of entertainment. Also, it allowed people to watch history like political events.

    John F. Kennedy was assassinated November 22, 1963 by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas. JFK was on a campaign and stayed an extra day which he was later assassinated. He was shot from a warehouse and took to Parkland Hospital. JFK was so important that 3 TV stations went without interruptions for 70 hours. This affected the society because JFK was one of the best presidents in U.S. history. Also, the most flowers bought in one day was the day after JFK was assassinated.

    Lyndon Johnson started Medicare in 1966 in the U.S. and Medicaid was started by a Social Security Administration in 1965 in the U.S. Medicare pays half of elders hospital bills. Medicaid helps hospital bills for people with a low income. This was the largest source of money to help pay hospital bills. This affected the society because people with less money could go to the hospital with a smaller hole in their wallet. Also, these do vary state from state.

    This event took place on June 17, 1972 in Washington D.C with Richard Nixon. 5 burglars entered the Democratic Party Headquarters to get information. When they left the door was left slightly opened so the police investigated. Nixon was caught and so were the burglars. Nixon claimed he was not involved, found secret tapes that sealed the deal. Nixon resigned from office and never came back. This impacted politics because there had to be a new President. Also, Nixon was the first to quit as pres.

    Jimmy Carter was inaugurated to be President in 1976 and served 1 term as a democrat. He was involved in Salt 2 which reduced nuclear weapons. Also, he set up the Social Security act which gives elders money because of retirement. He impacted politics because he attended the Helsinki Agreement to treat people better. Also, he ran the 1980 Olympic boycott because it was in the soviet union and the athletes did not attend because Russia invaded Afghanistan.

    Christa McAuliffe was a teacher that was the first passenger. There were 4 postponements and black smoke showed up after liftoff.After 74 seconds the smoke turned into flames and later fell into the Atlantic Ocean. The importance of this event was that millions tuned in to watch these 7 astronauts. This impacted the society because innocent people died for no reason. Nasa's director was fired right after the incident and the program was put on hold for 32 months.

    August 1990 Saddam Hussein sent 100,000 troops to Kuwait. George H.W. Bush wanted to stop this so he sent troops of his own to Saudi Arabia. On January 16, 1991 the U.N. started an Air Attack called Desert Storm and 28 other countries joined in, including the U.S. Within 24 hours Iraq's missiles were useless and the war ended 6 weeks later. The impacted our economy because we had to rebuild which costed billions. Also, 700 million dollars were used to clean up oil spills.

    This event happened in September in New York, Washington D.C., and Pennsylvania .Afghanistan decided to attack the U.S. with our planes. The first attacks were on the Twin Towers and one in the Pentagon and one in a field. This was important because America was under attack for the first time since Pearl Harbor. This impacted the society because innocents died and National Monuments fell. There were many monuments added for these events and people visit these everyday to pay their respect.
  • Barack Obama's Inauguration

    This took place in Washington D.C. with Barack Obama on Tuesday January 20th. Barack could choose a Bible and he chose Abraham Lincolns bible because he ended slavery. Michelle Obama held it and he repeated the words. Over 1 million were there watching it live. Others watched it on TV or on the internet. This impacted politics because Barack Obama was the first ever African American president in U.S. History. Also, this was one of the most watched events on TV internationally.
