    Feb.4th-11th 1945 Yalta Conference, Soviet Union

    The Yalta Conference took place in Russia, where the three main allied leaders met to plan out the final defeat of Germany. Agreeing to divide the country into three sections, the US, British, and Soviet Union forces would care for one of the sections. The Yalta Conference is also known as the Crimea Conference.

    Held in Germany, the three main allies met to plan the postwar 'peace.' They confirmed plans to demilitarize Germany and would be divided to 4 allied occupations. They also went ahead to change the German society.

    A nuclear explosion, conducted by the United States in New Mexico, testing the bomb. It was the first conducted bomb ever made and was known as the Trinity Nuclear Test. It took place on July 16, 1945, Los Alamos, Mexico.

    During World War 2, the United States dropped the first bomb on the Japanese city, Hiroshima, killing about 80,000 people. About three days later, they dropped a bomb on the Japanese city, Nagasaki. A couple of days later, Japan surrendered to the US.

    On Feb.9 Joseph Stalin had announced that war between the East and West was 'inevitable.' A month later, Winston Churchill made a speech at Westminster College, saying “From Stettin in the Baltic, to Trieste in the Adriatic, an iron curtain has descended across the continent,” (The National WW2 Museum) It was one of his most famous speech.

    A sponsored program to build up the economies of western and Southern Europe countries. This was created to stabilize conditions and to increase trade measured with Europe. It offered help and finance after WW2.

    Established by the Soviet Union, it was a mutual defense that put the Soviets in command of the armed forces of the other states in the pact. This would help strengthen the Soviets, by making them in charge of other countries.

    In which the Soviets launched the world's first satellite, which caused fears in many Americans. The launch of Sputnik was also one of the many reasons for the Cold War, as it showed how behind the US was in developing technology. This successful launch shocked many countries.
