  • Diem Bien Phu

  • Brown vs. Board of Education of Topeka, Kansas

    This ruled that segregation in publicm schools was unconstitutional because it violated the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment.
  • Rosa Parks bus fiasco

    Rosa Parks refuses to leave her seat for a white man, she is arrested for this. Starts a bus buycott.
  • Sit-in Movement begins

    A protest where african americans would sit in and not leave a restaruant where they were denied service. This helped to integrate many restaraunts
  • George Wallace trys to stop black kids from enrolling at Alabama U.

    The governer of Alabama, he was very pro-segragation and did his best to kkep black students out of public schools. Kind of a dousche.
  • Dr. Kings "I Have a Dream Speech"

    Given by Dr. King at the Lincoln Memorial. He siad that he dreamed of a day when people would be judged by the quality of their character, not the color of their skin.
  • Diem overthrown by Vietnamese Generals

    South Vietnam's President, Ngo Dinh Diem, was very unpopular due to the corruption of his government. Because of him being killed, the South's government got weaker.
  • Kennedy Assassination

    He was shot in Dallas, Texas by ex-marine Lee Harvey Oswald. This means that the President is now Johnson.
  • Civil Rightts Act of 1964

    Prsedient Johnson signs it in, it made segregation illegal in most public places. It also established the Equal Employment Oppurtunity Commission
  • Pres. Johnson announces Vietnamese sink American Destroyers

    The incident was between the USS Maddox and three vietnamese torpedo boats. Although it has been questioned whether or not it ever happened.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    Is important because it gave President Johnson the ability to use conventional military force without a formal decleration of war.
  • Selma march

    A march for voting rights between Selma and Montgomery. There were three marches, only the third one made it all the way to Montgomery.
  • Voting Rights Act of 1965

    Basically made sure that all peoples could vote regardless of skin color. It outlawed requiring literacy tests. It was signed in by Johnson.
  • Watts Riot

    Occured in the Los Angeles neighborhood (named Watts). During which 34 people were killed, 1,032 injured, and 3,438 arrested.
  • Tet Offensive

    the NVA broke the truce that usaully came with the Tet (lunar new year policy. Over 100 cities were attacked.
  • Pres. Johnson announces he will not run for presidency

    President Johnson decides not to run for the presidency because of the oppositon to the war and Vietnam.
  • Dr. King assassinated

    James Earl Ray shot Dr. KIng from his hotel room. James Ray was giveng a 99 year sentence.
  • Nixon announces gradual removal of troops

    A process called "Vietnamation" where we gradually let the soldiers of South Vietnam take over.
  • Vietnam draft starts

    Men of age and physical capability were picked reandomly to fight in Vietnam. Nixon decided it was the best way to increase man power. Because of it, more aroung 3 million americans went to Vietnam.
  • Kent State University (four protesters killed)

    The students were protesting the invasion of Cambodia. The Ohio National Gaurd shot and killed 4 people, wounding 9 others.
  • Agreement signed ending war

    The war ended with the North beating the South, the two were reunited.
  • US Embassy overrun

    It is overrun by the Khmer Rouge, a group of Communist Guerilla fighters. After the start the Cambodian Genocide.
