    Berlin Airlift
    Trucks, planes, and railroad cars brought in coal, food, petroleum, and other supplies to more than 2 million people in West Berlin. There were more than 250,000 flights and brought in more than 2 million goods. Soviet Union ended its blockade in May 1949, but the airlift continued untill September.
  • The Communists Take Over China

    The Communists Take Over China
    The communists and the ruling nationalists party faught the Japanese because they invaded China. A Civil War broke out between the communists and nationalists after World War II. The communists were led by Mao Zedong and China was ruled by Chiang Kai-shek. By December of 1949 the communists had driven all of Chiangs forces from the mainlands. Many Americans worried that the communists might take over all of Asia.

    It was the first war that the United Nations played a military role in. Troops from North Korea invaded South Korea. The United Nations demanded that the Communists withdraw from South Korea. United Nations had there military aid South Korea. 41 countries sent military equiptment and food to South Korea.The United States provided 90% of all the military equiptment, supplies, and troops that went to South Korea. The War Ended on July 27, 1953. They signed a Armistice Agreement.

    The Berlin wall divided West Berlin and East Berlin. The wall prevented East Germans from traveling to West Berlin. The wall was about 26 miles long.

    Cuban Missle Crisis
    The Soviet Union secretly instaled missles in Cuba. The missles could have been used to fire nuclear wepons at America The Soviet Union offered to remove the missiles if the United States promised not to invade Cuba. Kennedy agreed publicly to dismantle all U.S. missile bases in Turkey if they would dismantle all the missles in Cuba. On October 28 they both dismantled their wepons and endedthe crisis.
