    In April of 1865, O'Sullivan was at the Appomattox Court house for Lee’s surrender at the end of the war in Virginia. This was not the end of the Civil War itself but Johnston’s Army was still being chased after by the Union. Lee had abandoned the Confederate capital of Richmond and the city of Petersburg.
