    The Election of 1860 is when Abraham Lincoln was elected president. The South didn't vote for him so they were mad. The Election of 1860 was significant because the South was worried that the South was worried that Abraham Linclon was going to try and abolish Salvery.

    South Carolina Seceded because they didn't want Abraham Lincoln as a president. They were against the presidency of Abraham Lincoln becasue they thought that Lincoln was going to try and abolish slavery even thoughLincoln made it very clear he was stopping the spread not the existance of slavery.

    Leaders of the Confederate States of America decided to attack Fort Sumter before the Union Ships could arrive. The Attack on Fort Sumter is Significant because The Souths Attack on Fort Sumter is what started the Civil War.

    The Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas was the first offical war of the Civil war. They attacked Bull Run because their goal was to invade Virginia and take the Confederate Capitol in Richmond. The main reason they did this was because the Anaconda Plan was taking to long, and they needed to speed up the process of war.

    The battle of Antietam was the single bloodest war. 22,717 dead, wounded, or missing on both sides. The Union had 25% of the casualties.
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    General McLellen was replaced by general Burnside. After the loss at Antietam, Lee moved his army to back to Virginia. Then Burnside decided to try and and take Richmond.

    After the battle of Antietam Lincoln Declared the Emancipation Proclomation. Which basically would free the slaves. But he hesitated to free them. He didn't think that he had the power to free slaves since slaves were considered property and not people.

    The Battle of Vicksburg in 1863 was the last war of the Civil War. After the Battle of Vicksburg the 13th Amendment was passed that freed all the slaves.

    Lee tries the "Antietam Stratagy" again. He invaded the North to make them give up and get help from Europe. In late June 1863, Lee crossed into Pennsylvania heading for Gettysburg where it was rumored there was a supply of shoes. July 1st, Lee's troops ran into Union troops ran into Union troops Both sides called for reinforcements and the battle was on UNPLANED.
  • 54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    The 54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner was the most famous of all black regiments. In July of 1863, attacks on Fort Wagner happened in South Carolina. I believe that this is significant because it let African Americans join the war and fight for their freedom.

    The Gettysburg Address was a short speech made by Abraham Lincoln. Basically it said that the people in the Gettysburg war should not be remembered in vain and that we should celebrate them instead.

    Shermans march to the sea was a march of the Union Army. They burned buildings and destroyed railroads.
  • 13th Amendment Passed

    Lincoln sees a victory as a clear sign to end slavery permanently with a Constitutional Amendment. The 13th Amendment was passed (after his death) The 13th Amendement abolised slavery, Prohibited involuntary servitude, Nullified the Fugitive Slave Act, The 3/5 compormise.
  • Surreneder at Appomattox Courthouse

    Surreneder at Appomattox Courthouse

    April 8, 1865, Lee and Grant met in a small Virginia town called Appomattox Court House. Where Lee offically surrenedered and ended the Civil War. Southeners hopes of being a country.
