  • Election of 1860

    Abraham became our 16th president. South did not like that and South Carolina seceded from the U.S.
  • South Carolina Secedes

    Abraham Lincoln became president and South Carolina did not like that. So they seceded from the U.S because they thought Lincoln was gonna get ride of slavery.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Was a 2 day battle between some people from north and some people from the south. Was the battle that really led to the Civil War.
  • Battle of Bull Run/Manassas

    First major battle of Civil War. Was in Prince William County, Virginia
  • Battle of Antietam

    Bloodiest battle of Civil War. First major win for the North.Lincoln sees a chance to capitalize on the victory and issues the Emancipation Proclamation.
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    Was a win for the Union but lost for general. The general ended up getting fired because he did not chase after the confederate when they were fleeing.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Union had won a big battle and Lincoln wanted to capitalize on it. He made law that slaves could be free if they were willing to fight in the war.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    Was a battle that the Union really needed to win. When they won Lincoln took advantage by making the Gettysburg Address.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Battle was not even supposed to happen. Confederate were trying to sneak into union territory and ended up getting caught and a battle happened afterwards.
  • 54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    Allowed free slaves to fight in war if they wanted to. More than half the free slaved men went to fight in war.
  • Gettysburg Address

    Is called the most famous speech given by Abraham Lincoln. Was basically said to uplift more soldiers to join the war so they could defeat the Confederate.
  • Sherman's March to the Sea

    Involved doing total war. Total war is when you not only have war with enemy troops, but against anything that supports the enemy.
  • 13th Amendment Passed

    Abolish slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude, nullified the fugitive slave act, 3/5 compromise
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Apparently was in someone house. Was where the treaty was made for the war. General Grant made goals which were to stop fighting and return home in peace.
