  • Election of 1860

    Election of 1860

    The election of 1860 was when Abraham Lincoln won the election. The south was not happy about him winning and in result of that South Carolina leaves the U.S and more states leave to and they create the Confederate States Of America.
  • South Carolina Secedes

    South Carolina Secedes

    South Carolina was upset about the election so they left the United States. This is the 2nd time they said they were going to leave and they did.
  • Attack on Fort Sumter

    Attack on Fort Sumter

    After the election of 1860 the North was sending supplies to the military bases in the South. The South though the North was lying and attacked Fort Sumter thus which caused the start of the Civil War.
  • Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas

    Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas

    The battle of Bull Run or Manassas was the first battle of the Civil War. The North thought this was going to be a short war because they have more men and supplies. The North lost the battle to the South so that changed their point of view about the war.

    Battle of Antietam was the second battle of the Civil War. The North won the battle and the South retreated. So both sides have at least 1 win and 1 lost.
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    General Burnside tried to take Richmond but he was defeated by General Lee. General Lee lost 42%/6,000 of his men but General Burnside lost 58%/12,500 of his men.

    On January 1st 1863 Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation proclamation which freed all the slaves in the South.

    The battle of Vicksburg or the Siege of Vicksburg was when Vicksburg was the last Southern strong hold and the last Southern strong hold to the Mississippi river.General Grant dug in for a siege until July 4,1862 were the Vicksburg fell and Union have control over the Mississippi river and the South was split in two.

    Battle of Gettysburg

    General Lee try's to invade the North again but his troops ran into some Union troops and both side called for reinforcements. General Lee lost the battle to General George and retreated to the South and it is the last time the South invaded the North.
  • 54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    54th Massachusetts Fight at Fort Wagner

    The 54th were a platoon of Black Northern soldiers. They took part in the battle for Fort Wagner. They failed to capture the fort but they are an important part of Civil War history.
  • Gettysburg Address

    Lincoln came to Gettysburg and gave a short speech that was less than 2 minutes.He would speak at the cemetery were 3,500 soldier rest in their grave.
  • Sherman’s March to the Sea

    Sherman’s March to the Sea

    General Sherman marched his troops through Georgia to get to the sea. On the way his troops destroyed rail roads and wrapped rail road beams to trees which is known as Sherman's Bowtie's and burnt down crops and looted towns. This is called Total war.
  • 13th Amendment Passed

    13th Amendment Passed

    After Abraham Lincoln died the 13th Amendment was passed. Slavery was abolished and the war was over and the country was united as a whole again.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    The Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse was when General Lee surrendered to General Grant and is also the end of the Civil War. Grants goal was for the Lee and his men to stop fighting and return home in peace.
