Civil War Timeline

  • Battle of Bull Run

The battle of Bull Run was a battle in Manassas that the Confederacy won by breaking the Union flanks after being behind for a while. Jackson got the nickname Stonewall for bringing the south to victory. The Union retreated and it boosted the South's morale.
  • Battle of Antietam

The battle of Antietam was near Sharpsburg, Virginia. Robert E Lee led his troops against General McClellan in this very bloody battle. Later in the battle, the Union attacked a bridge with only a few soldiers on it and pushed through. They could have destroyed the right flank then, but they faltered and Rebs had reinforcements came in and pushed them out. McClellan could have pushed on them, but did nothing and got rid of chances of an early end to the war.
