Period: Oct 31, 1860 to May 1, 1865

Abe was elected

Nov 6, 1860

Abe was elected for president and decided that there should be no slaves. This was great because he helped stop slavery.

Battle of Fort Sumter

Apr 12, 1861

Fort Sumter was a battle that started the civil war. The North went to Sumter and thought they were going to win but theat didn't happen. This was great because this was the start of something new.

Lincoln Blockade

Apr 19, 1861

Abe Lincoln signed to the blockade that helped the union win. This helped because stratigy helped us win the war.

1st Battle of Bull Run

Jul 21, 1861

This was the first major battle after Fort Sumter. The Confederates thought that would have been the end but it wasn't. The union defeated them so the south didn't win the war.

Battle of Shiloh

Apr 6, 1862

One of the bloodiest battles in the war. This was a big help to the union in a lot of ways to win the war.

These were 6 major battles in seven days. They were short battles with a lot of people dieing.

Monitor vs. Virginia naval battle

THis battle was on the water and it was great because the weapon was the ironclads which were very hard to destroy.

Antietam

Sep 17, 1862

Was a major battle of the Civil war. The battle was in the south and was by the Antietam river. One of the best parts was the union won but they won because they had alomost twice as many people.

Issued The Emancipation Proclaimation

Sep 22, 1862

This declared that a million of the four million slaves were let free. Abe lincoln signed this proclaimation. This was great because we were one step closer to winning over the slaves.

2nd Bull Run Battle

Sep 29, 1862

The 2nd bull run battle was a year or so after the 1st one. This was a confederate victory. The confederates stole supplies from them which made the union weak. Thats why it was so great.

Emancipation Proclamation Takes Effect

Jan 1, 1863

The proclamation was signed and all the states with a rebellion had to free there slaves. The good part about theis is that we were that much closer to freeing all the slaves.

Battle of Chancellorsville

Apr 30, 1863

This battle was in Virginia. One of the major battles. South had won this battle because of the spilt army and general lee won it because of it. And thats what made it great.

Battle of Gettysburg

Jul 1, 1863

Turning point in the war. One of the biggest battles ever. The Union won the battle. Would be it was a long and there were a lot of people dieing.

Vicksburg Battle

Jul 4, 1863

A major battle and the last tin the Visksburg campign. The good thing about this is the mississippi river and how it can transport people faster.

Gettysburg Address

Nov 19, 1863

Gettsburg was one of the best speeches made by the president Abe Lincoln. This speech was about how we are supossed to be equal. This wasa great speech and has changed this country forever.

Battle of Chattanooga

Nov 23, 1863

The battle was like any other battle but the union forced the south away and thats why its great.

Ulysses S Grant Takes Over

Mar 10, 1864

Ulysses was a great leader and saved this country. He was the one who defeated the south to make this country a better place. He helped us win the war.

Sherman captures Atlanta

Nov 5, 1864

This was a bloody fight after 1700 men killed. They had to cut off the railroads to win this which made it so great.

Abe was re-elected

Nov 8, 1864

Abe Lincoln won his election again. He only stayed in the house for 6 years because he was killed. This was great because he was there to controll the civil war instead of a person from the south.

March to Sea

Nov 16, 1864

The march to sea was a long march to scare the south of the north. The great part about this was that they were going far with little supplies.

13th Amendment passed

Jan 31, 1865

This amendment said that to have slaves would be a crime. This was great for the slave because they didn't have to work but for the slave owners they were mad because they had to do things on there own.

Occupy Richmond

Mar 3, 1865

This battle was capturing the confederates capital. This was really huge on the union. This was one of the best battles in history becasue of the way the north did it.

Robert Lee Surenders

Apr 9, 1865

Robert Lee had enough of the civil war and decided to surender. The best thing about this is because the civil war was over and the slaves were free.

Lincoln's Assasssination

Apr 14, 1865

Lincoln was shot just 5 days after the civil war ended. Booth (the killer) was mad that the slaves were gone and thought he would take it out on abe. There wasn't really a good thing that happened here because the president was killed.
