    Lincoln was elected right before the Civil War began and had to lead the country through a very big crisis. The significance of Lincoln getting elected is that he is ready to turn the country around and set the country on the right path.

    The Confederates opened fire on Fort Sumter giving the Union too much to handle forcing them to surrender the fort. The significance is that it gave the Confederates an early win and confidence.

    This was 6 battles fought over the 7 days of June 26, 1862 through July 1, 1862. This was significant because the Union was suppose to drive the Confederate troops back into Richmond but wound up getting pushed away from the Confederates and the Union's plan fell apart.

    The Uniion is beat by the Confederates even though the Confederates had 20,000 less men than the Union. The significance is that it is the most significant battle wins for the Confederates and it crushed the North's hope.

The significance of this is that the south would lose most of their agriculture industry and would have a big disadvantage in the war now that the North would have the ex slaves fighting for them.

    It was a major victory for Lee and the Confederate troops. There were 24,000 deaths and of those the Union had 14,000 of them and the Confederates lost a great strategic planner in this battle. The significance is that it was possibly Lee's greatest victory and the Confederates lost one of the best strategic minds of the time.

    The battle took place from the 1st of July to the 3rd of July. The battle was brutel and took the lives of thousands and things begin to look bad for the Confederates. The significance of this is that the Union begins to take complete control of the war after this battle.

    Brutal battle leading to a Union victory even though they had over half of the casualties. The significance is that the Confederacy was split in two now and Grant is building his reputation higher and higher.

    The Gettysburg Address was a two minute speech given by Lincoln that announced that the battlefield was now a National Cemetery. The significance of this is that the soldiers that died there are now a part of a historic cemetery that they risked their lives for.

    The Confederates won the battle and retreated to Chatanooga and focused their attention on Knoxville. The significance of this is that the Union may have lost but they were able to bring in reinforcements and are now able to get after the Confederates again.

    Once Grant took over the Union Army, Sherman had to take over as a commander in the West. The significance is that Lincoln now has a decent general to lead the Union to victory.

    The Union made their way to Atlanta to seize it and make their way to the ocean. The significance is that the Union could now bring supplies and many other things to the ports in the south very easily and had a little bit of an upper hand now.

    Lincoln is able to enter office for a second term in office. The significance of this is that Lincoln can keep doing what he is doing and not change the plan for the war.

    Sherman lead his troops to the Atlantic only to see that there was hardly any troops to stop him from making it to the ocean. The significance is that it lead to Sherman taking Savannah and presenting it to Lincoln as a present for Christmas and it was the beginning of the end for the Confederates.

    Sherman quickly took Savannah and telegraphed Lincoln telling him that he got him a Christmas present and then quickly began to march to the Carolinas. The significance is that the Union now could move on and they had another city in the south.

    Lincoln passes the 13th Amendment that ends slavery and sets all the slaves free. The significance of this is that the south now has to earn their own money and can't treat the African Americans unfairly anymore.

    The capital of the Confederate states was taken over by Grant's forces and now is under Union control. The significance is that the Union now has control of the capital of the south and now the Confederates are beginning to lose their land and the war.

    Lee surrenders because his retreat was blocked by another group of Union soldiers. The significance of this is that it ended the war and the Union took the victory of the war and the country was back together.
  • Abraham Lincoln Shot and Killed

    Abraham Lincoln Shot and Killed
    Lincoln took his wife to see "Our American Cousin" at Ford's theater and was shot during the third act by John Wilkes Booth. Lincoln was shot on the 14th and died the 15th. The significance of this event is that the vice president has to take the place of Lincoln and now the country has lost one of the greatest leaders ever. He had to lead them through the war and slavery and that was all he got to do.
