  • Creating a Southern Government

    The South created a constition where the states were more self-governing. THis made the seven seced states happier and made them feel they had more power. They elected Jefferson Davis provisional president of the Confederacy until elections could be held.
  • Lincoln's Inauguration

    The south saw Lincoln as a threat and they became even more upset.
  • The attack of Fort Sumter.

    The union occupied a fort that the south clamied to be part of the Confederacy so the south attacked the fort for 34 hours untill the union surrendered. This is where the south had basically declared war by attacking federal property.
  • 1st Federal Income Tax

    The government started collecting Taxes from people to fund the war and that was the first time it has ever happened.
  • The battle of Bull Run

    The battle of Bull Run
    The Battle of Bull Run was the first battle of the civil war. The north had confederate soldiers retreating except for General Jackson how "stood like a stone wall". Jackson then had renforcements and the pushed back the union soldiers.   • Prison Camps

    Caputered soldiers were held prisoners of war and many died from over crowding and exposure in the prisons.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    The confederate soldiers attacked the union under General Ulysses S. Grant. Union reinforcments came and the battle proved that this was not going to be an easy win for either side.
  • South starting tension

    The british staretd to communicate with the south creating tension. When 2 southern soldiers were sent to England were captured bt the canadien and sent to the north the British threated to go to war. Lincoln decided to release the prisoners because he knew to only fight one war at a time.

    The Second Battle of Bull Run was a very important victory for the South. In fact, it was the most decisive battle in the Northern Virginia campaign for the Confederates.
  • Battle of Antietam

    This was the first major battle on northern soil and it was the worst single day battle in American history.
  • Battle of Chancellorsville

    The confederate troops were outnumber but came out on top and beat union troops after using a stragedy made by Lee and it was an outstanding victory for the south.
  • The Battle of Gettysburg

    After the bloodiest battle of the war this was a boost for northern spirts after 2 big losses even though both sides had huge losses
  • Battle of Chickamauga

    The union forces gained a doorway for invasion into the deep south
  • Lincoln's Reelection

    This decided if the war would be ended by negotiations or by force.
