Aberham Lincoln was elected as the 16th president.Suprisingly he only recieved 40% of americas votes, but handily defeated the other three.Lincoln was the first republican president.Before lincoln was elected he was in an election for senater but he lost to the same man he won againkst for president. -
TX secede from the union
Starting in 1860 Sam Houston was in a lot of presure to secede or not to secede from the US. Sam Houston actually did not want to secede because he thought that it would look like texas lost to the other states so he was kicked out of office. before texas seceded there were already seven more states that had seceded from the US before Lincoln was elected. This efected jthe war because it gave the confederate states a better chance to win the war with more states. -
Sam Houston gets removed from office
Sam Houston was thrown out of office because he refused to go to the confederate states. also texans were afraid to lose being a slave state so they moved to the confederate states to have a better chance of staying a slavestate.Houston did not want to be part of the confederate states because he thought it would make texas look like they lost . when Houston was removed from office that wa shis last carrier in public service -
