  • President Lincoln Becomes President

    President Lincoln is elected without any Southern votes. This is significant because it started the war. After Lincoln was elected.
  • South Caroline Secedes

    South Caroline secedes because they didn't like the fact that their voices weren't heard. They didn't want Lincoln to be the president. This was significant because it made the two signs of the civil war.
  • Battle of Fort Summer

    This started the Civil war but wasn't the first major battle. The north didn't give up Fort Summer to the South. This was significant because it was the battle that started the war.
  • Battle of Bull Run/ Manassas

    North wanted to invade Virginia and take Confederate Capital Richmond to speed things up. The north made a plan that was taking a long time called the Anaconda plan. This was significant because it was the first major battle that will start the three-year war.
  • Battle of Antietam

    Noth was at a low point and the South used that as a little chance to get help from England and hopes to get the North to give up. So the south invades the north and this battle happens. It was significant because it was the bloodiest single day in all of American history. It was the first major win for the north.
  • Battle of Fredericksburg

    A new general named Burnside. Burnside decides to attack and try and take Richmond. South has the high ground and wins. It's significant because the union had more people but lost.
  • Emancipation Proclamation

    Throughout the war, Lincoln was hesitant to free the slaves.
    The Battle of Antietam delivers him the perfect opportunity because they won this one. It's significant because it was the first step to free the slaves, but this only free the slaves in the Confederate states.
  • Battle of Vicksburg

    General Ulysses S. Grant won important victories in the west.
    Vicksburg was the last stronghold of the Confederates on the Mississippi River. This is significant because it was when we got control of the Mississippi River. It was the day after Gettysburg.
  • Battle of Gettysburg

    Union had the high ground. Lee thought it was good to invade the North again after the first time. Union won this battle. It was a turning point because it was the last time Lee and Confederacy ever invade the North. It was significant because it was a turning point and another win for the Union. Lee wanted shoes for his soldiers because they had no shoes and heard a rumor in Gettysburg had a supply of shoes. The battle was unplanned.
  • Gettysburg Address

    The day when Lincoln chose to have a portion of the battlefield in Gettysburg as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that the nation might live. It's significant because it were the
    soldiers who died are laid to rest that they can find.
  • Sherman's March to the Sea

    General Sherman marched 60,000 men 285 miles. It changed the civil war because they made civilians who were now free the same. It was significant becuase when the Union got there the town was abated.
  • Surrender at Appomattox Courthouse

    It was when Lee surrender. The goal was to stop fighting and return home. It was significant because the south gave up, and we won the war.
  • 13th Amendment

    The 13th Amendment was to Abolished slavery, prohibited involuntary servitude, and nullified the Fugitive Slave Act and the 3/5 compromise. This was significant because it stops us from having slavery.
