    Abraham Lincoln was from the North which means he was against slavery. The south didn't like him because they wanted slavery.

    South Carolina was the first state to leave the United States.

  • The Confederation is Formed

    The Southern States form their own country called the Confederate. Jefferson Davis is their president.

  • Abraham Lincoln Becomes President

    Now that Lincoln is president he wants to restore the Union.

  • South Attacks Fort Sumter

    The South attack Fort Sumter. This starts the Civil War.

  • Battle of Bull Run 1

    Union and Confederate armies fight near Manassas Junction, Virginia. This is the first major battle of the Civil War. The South won this battle. This win gave the South lots of confidence.

  • Battle of Shiloh

    The Confederate army sneaks into the Union army's camp. The Union runs and get ready to fight. The fighting lasted two days. In the end the Union won this battle.

  • Emancipation Proclamation

    President Lincoln issues an executive order freeing many slaves.

  • Battle of Gettysburg

    The Battle of Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3. t was the most important engagement of the American Civil War. The Union not only did the North win this battle, but they started winning the Civil War
