    Inspired by a real person, this carefully written anti-slavery argument by Harriet Beecher Stowe changed the way some people thought about slavery. It helped lay the groundwork for the Civil War in many ways. Lincoln referred to Stowe as "The Little Lady who started a Great War". It became a best seller that cried for immediate abolition of slavery altogether.
