This is a major event in this time period because Lincoln made a lot of very important decision while he was in office that greatly changed the outcome of the civil war. He will be forever known as one of the great leaders of our countrys. He changed our country and made people look at everyone more equally no matter the color of their skin, and he stood up for what he believed in which the south did not agree with.

    The 1st Battle of Bull Run took place in Northern Virginia. The North outnumbered the South 30,000 to 22,000, even with these odds the South will come out with the victory when the North retreats after a hard fought battle.

    The battle of Vicksburg was located in Mississippi. This battle is where the Union got control of the Mississippi River, after Vicksburg surrendered to Grant. This was a huge win for the Union because they could use the River for more trade and shipments of weapons and ammunition.

    The Battle of Gettysburg was a battle fought in Pennsylvania. Lee retreated leaving 4,000 dead confederate soldiers and 3 days went by. Total casualties, Union 23,000 confederates 28,000. This was the largest battle in the Western Hempisphere.
