  • Emancipation Proclamation

    This was an executive order issued by Abraham Lincoln as a war measure to the Executive Branch. The Proclamation also ordered that suitable persons among those freed could be enrolled into the Army.

    The battle of Gettyburg was fought in and around the town of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. It was fought between Union and Confederate forces. This battle had the largest number of casualties out of any other battle during the war. It ended in a Union victory.

    This was a speech by Abrham Lincoln 4 and a half months after the Battle of Gettysburg. It is one of the most famous speeches in history, citing the principles of human equality.
  • Andersonville Prison

    This preserves the old Fort Sumter, which was turned into a prisoner-of-war camp for the Union forces. Of the 45000 that were there, nearly 13000 died of starvation or mal-nutrition.

    This was the final battle with General Lee's Confederate army and General Grant's Union army. The Confederate army surrendered to the Union army in one of the last battles of the Civil War.

    On April 14, 1865, President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Fords theater. Booth was planning to take out the three most important people in power, therefore reviving the confederacy.
