Many Election of 1860 people were hoping that the Republicans would not take over the Election of 1860. Southerners let everyone know that if repblicans ended up winning the election, that they would secede. Their were many difficulties in the south, such as slavery, With all of the things that the south had faced, they really depended on this election.On November 6, 1860 Abraham Lincoln was elected president of the United States. -
South Secedes
South Secedes After Lincoln was elected president South Carolina seceded from the union. Texas, Mississippi, Lousiana, Georgia, Florida and Alabama also seceded from the union that Febuary. Shortly after, they all came together in Alabama. While they were there, they formed something called the Confederate States of America. These states all wrote a Constitution and elected Jefferson Davis president of the confederate states. -

beggining of civil war origionally Lincoln promised that he would try not to attack the South. On April 12, 1861 all confederate states began to bombard Fort Sumter. Fort Sumter was a fort that entered in to The Charelston Harbor in South Carolina. Finally Fort Sumter surrendered and LIncoln announced that all Seceded states were now in rebellion. This was the dawning of the Civil War. -

His presidency turned out having many faults, Davis was not able to get enough monet to fight in the Civil War. He had hopes of hiring ggreat miliatary officers, but the givernment would not let him. He was also in constant conflict with other states. -

seven days battleThe Seven Days Battle started out When Lee attacked MaClellan. When Lee attacked that led to Confederates surrefing many hardships,the Confederates forced McClellan to retreat. Abraham Lincoln told General John Pope to continue to Richmond. Lee distracted the Union Army, and General John Popes army failed at the second battle of Bull Run. -

Emancipation Proclamation The Emancipation Proclamation was issued after the victory at Antietam.this states that all slaves in areas that arent occupied that are in the rebellion are to be freed in JAnuary. 1863. IN the time of the war, congress allowed 180,000 African Americans serve in the union Army. -

BAttle of Gettysburg Lee told George Pickett to attack.15,000 men took place in this charge and most were killed or captured. The retreats renewed northern support for the war efforts. -

Gettysburg Adress The Gettysburg Adress was a speech spoken by Abraham LIncoln. This speech stated facts about all men being created equal, and for people to realiza all of the sacrifices that the men in the civil war went through. This was also a start of self- government, and Abraham Lincoln stated that it was "a new birth of freedom." -
Appomattox Courthouse
Appomattox Courthouse In April of 1865 Grant defeated all of Lees defences when they met at Petersburg. Lee gave up and was forced into surrendering to Grant when they were in Appomattox Courthouse. Almost 620,000 Americand passed away during the four years of the Civil war. Today the Civil war is known as the most deadly war in U.S. history.
