South Secedes
More Info After hearing about the election, South Carolina seceded, which was then followed by Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, and finally Texas. They then met in Alabama to form the Confederate States of America. It was then, that the country had broken up. -
Fort Sumter
Badly Designed Link On this day the Confederates began attacking this federal fort. The fort surrendered, an it wasn't until this moment that the south were officially in rebellion. Due to the "official" rebellion, the Civil War began, much to many peoples despise. -

Link Jefferson Davis was elected the president of The Confederate States of America after the founders wrote a constitution. Instead of the fromal two year term, he had a six year term! e also ran unopposed. -
Battle of Shiloh
Timeline The Union wanted the Mississippi river, and so they fought for it. However, the Confederates got Ullysses S. grant to retreat. However, more Union officers came, and got them to retreat. This battle lasted a long, long time, but finally ended on July 4, 1863 when the Confederates surrendered. -
Seven Days Battle
In tgis battle, the injured southerners pushed the Union and Mclellan away. This hurt the Union, but it didin't stop them. Next Lincoln would get John Pope to go to Washington. -
Second Battle of Bull Run
Link Since Pope believed he had caught the Confederate leader, Jackson, they launched a series of attacks toward him and the Confederacy. There were many injuries and deaths on either sides. It was a two day disaster that the Union had lost. -
Battle of Antietam
LINK As one of the absolute worst and most painful single-days battles in the history of America, this is a pretty famous fight. With this said, it was also a great victory for the Union troops. -
Emancipation Proclamation
Copy of the Original Speech This said all slaves in areas thatw ere not occupied were now legally free by the first of January in 1863. Contraire to the popular belief, no this was not the reason why the war started. However, it did anger the Conferederates. -

Draft Info Any man between the ripe age of 18 and 50 could possibly be forced into the war. This law was passed in 1863. This law cause many riots and protests, which were against the draft. -
Battle of Gettysburg
Official Reenactment Both the Union and Confederates pushed each other back. Then George Pickett had to attack. This was known as Pickett's Charge, which was quite tragic. More than 15,000 men died in this fight -
Gettysburg Address
Exhibit This was Lincoln's famous speech at the Gettysburg National Cemetery, which honored all who lost their lives. This is considered one of the greates and best-known speeches in U.S history. -
Appomattox Courthouse
Now You Can Visit It It was here that Lee surrendered to the Union. They signed the treaty here, in the same town. It was a great victory.
