    Battle of Fort Sumter
    On April 10, 1861, Brig. Gen. Beauregard, in command of the provisional Confederate forces at Charleston, South Carolina, demanded the surrender of the Union garrison of Fort Sumter in Charleston Harbor. On April 12, Confederate's opened fire on the fort. At 2:30 pm, April 13, Major Anderson surrendered Fort Sumter. The bombardment of Fort Sumter was the beginning of the American Civil War
  • First Battle of Bull Run

    This was the first major land battle fought between the armies in Virginia. This battle took place at Fairfax County and Prince William County. There were about 5,000 casualties, and the confederates won the war.
  • Battle of Wilson's Creek

    This battle took place at Greene County and Christian County, in Missouri. The Union wanted to control Missouri because they were breaking apart from the Union. They ended up losing the battle, alond with southwestern Missouri.

    Battle of Fort Donelson
    This battle took place in Stewart County, Tennesse. Brig. Gen. Ulysses S. Grant captured the fort, causing them to surrender. This victory for the Union also ensured that Kentucky would stay in the Union.
  • Battle of Island Number Ten

    Brig. Gen. John Pope, set out to Commerce, Missouri to attack the fort at New Madrid. Which was being defended by the Confederate's mainly to defend the Mississippi River. The Confederate's realized they couldn't defend it any longer and were forced to retreat.
  • Battle of Pea Ridge

    This battle took place in Benton County, Arkansas. The Union, being led by Maj. Gen. Samuel R. Curtis, forced the Rebels to retreat and were able to completely control Missouri as the result of this battle.
  • Battle of Glorieta Pass

    Battle of Glorieta Pass
    This battle took place in Santa Fe County and San Miguel County, New Mexico. The Union setup multiple flanks during this battle to drive the Rebel army back, until both sides got reinforcements. Once the reinforcements arrived, the two sides fought and the Union came out victorious.
  • Battle of Shiloh

    Battle of Shiloh
    This battle took place in Shiloh, Tennesese. This was a major battle, where there were 23,000 casualties, in which the Union suffered 13,000. However, the Union came out victorious and the Rebel army retreated and headed back to Conrath.
  • Battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip

    This battle was caused by the attempt of the Union to capture New Orleans, to stop the Rebel ships from entering the Mississippi. The two forts were forced to surrender once they were both surrounded by the Union troops.
  • Siege of Corinth

    Siege of Corinth
    The Confederate's tried to invate Corinth, and take it back from the Union, however the Union had heavily fortified this area. The Union pushed the Confederate's back, causing them to lose in defeat.
