  • Geneva Accords

    It had two purposes. First, was to find a way to unify Korea. The second was to restore peace in Indochina.
  • Dien Bien Phu

    Defeat of French Forces which led to the independance of Vietnamese
  • Brown v. Board of Education ruling is issued

    ruled that separation of school educational facilities were unequal. helped paved the way for equality.
  • US military aid and advisers are sent to South Vietnam

    South Vietmam recieved aid from the U.S. military. Also, U.S. military advisers were sent to help.
  • Montgomery bus boycott begins in Alabama

    african americans boycotted the bus system to protest the unequal treatment of blacks in the city
  • Eisenhower sends troops to Little Rock to ensure integration of a high school

    Little Rock was a group of african american students who enrolled in a white high school. troops were sent to ensure the integration of the school
  • Greensboro sit-in begins

    It was a series of non violent protests. Woolworth's department store reversed its policy on racial segregation.
  • President Kennedy takes office

    John F. Kennedy took office. He asked all americans to be active citizens.
  • Freedom Riders

    They boarded my interstate buses. they were beat and attacked by mobs.
  • The march on washington DC

    Civil rights march. Martin Luther King gave his "I have a dream speech"
  • Overthrow of Diem

    Diem became very unpopular amoung many people. Many riots started as a result of his actions. The U.S. was involved in his overthrowing
  • Lyndon B. Johnson is President

    He was sworn in as president of the U.S. He became president after Kennedy was assassinated.
  • Civil Rights act of 1964

    The civil rights act of 1964 was passed. It outlawed major forms of discrimination.
  • North Vietnamese torpedo boats fired on American destroyers

    In the Gulf of Tonkin, two american ships were fired on by north vietnamese torpedo boats. Johnson did not want to be soft on communism so he orded attacks on vietnamese ships.
  • Gulf of Tonkin Resolution

    It authorized the President to "take all necessary measures to repel any armed attack against the forces of the United States and to prevent further aggression."
  • Malcolm X is assassinated

    He was assassinated in Manhattan's Audubon Ballroom. He was assassinated as a result of being an advocate for Civil Rights.
  • Voting Rights act

    The voting rights act of 1965 was passed. It outlawed discriminatory voting practices.
  • Tet offensive begins

    Its hope was to spark a general uprising in South Vietnamese against the North. there were lots of causualties and North vietnam suprised the U.S. with their large effort
  • Martin Luther King Jr. assassination

    He was assassinated at the Lorraine Motel. He was killed as a result of him being an advocate for civil rights
  • Civil Rights Act of 1968

    Civil rights act of 1968 was passed. This act expanded on previous acts to futher outlaw discriminatory acts.
  • Protesting at Kent State

    Students at Kent State were protesting. The ohio national guard came and killed four students and injured nine more.
  • Last U.S. troops leave Vietnam

    The U.S. military troops all had finally left vietnam. No more troops remained stationed there.
  • Saigon Am. Embassy Falls

    Saigon was captured. It marked the end of the vietnam war.
