  • 14th Ammendment

    This amendment to the constitution gave Black people equal protection under the law.
  • Reconstruction

    The event of reconstruction is when Black people sought to take on leadership roles in public offices and were in search of equality and the right to vote.
  • 15th Amendment

    This amendment granted the Black Americans the right to vote.
  • Plessy v. Ferguson

    This court case was a large step forwards toward the equality of black to white in the south. The outcome of this case allowed for facilities for black and white people to be sperate but equal. Meaning black and whites were still kept separate however, their opportunities and resources were the same.
  • Executive Order 8802

    This Executive order by Franklin D. Roosevelt opened national defense jobs and other government jobs to all Americans regardless of race, creed, color, or nation origin.
  • Tuskegee Airmen

    Broke the racial barrier to become the first Black military aviators in the U.S Army Air Corps and earned more than 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses.
  • Executive Order 9981

    Issued by President Harry Truman to end discrimination within the military.
  • Rosa Parks

    Rosa parks was complying with the segregation system within the public transportation system where seats for the black folk were designated in the back, when a white man could not find a seat in the white section and her and 2 other black folks were instructed to give up their seats, Rosa refused and was then arrested.
  • Montgomery Improvement Association (MIA)

    This association was created based on the efforts of Rosa Parks and was led by Martin Luther King Jr, a role which would eventually put him as the face of the fight for civil rights. Park's courage and action incited the MIA to stage the boycott of the Montgomery bus system, which lasted 381 days and eventually ended with the Supreme court ruling segregated seating as unconstitutional.
