    Children need love, attention and stimulation. Children learn through their senses. Children are completely dependent on others, says Erikson.

    Autonomy vs. Shame. Learning right from wrong. Children build self-esteem. They also learn the word no, toilet training, walking, how to feed themselves and talking.
  • Concrete Operational

    Initiative vs. Guilt. Ages 3-6. Children learn to think for themselves. Learn symbolism and language. Association with objects.
  • Formal Operational

    Able to have abstract thoughts. Gain devotion and commitment. Gain strength by searching identity.
  • Early Adolecence

    Major physical changes. Industry vs. Inferiority. Relationship with peers start to gain importance. Begin to do independent work.
  • Middle Adolescence

    Ages 12-18. Identity vs. Role Confusion. Struggle with a need to fit in and be independent. Increase awareness on self and community.
  • Late Adolescence

    Search for more meaningful. Increase in self-esteem, self-identity is defined and your role in community. Become more selfless.
