October 12, 1907: Cubs claim first World Series title, beating Tigers 2-0 behind pitching of Mordecai Brown. The team would go on to appear in seven World Series in 1910, 1918, 1929, 1932, 1935, 1938, and 1945, losing each time. -
Last World Series
October 14, 1908: Cubs become first team to win back-to-back World Series, beating Detroit. Cubs won in five games for their second consecutive and overall World Series title. -
First MVP
Wildfire Schulte had a great year to win MVP! In 1911, he led the NL in home runs (21), runs batted in (121), and slugging percentage (.534). He also became the first player in major league history to have more than 20 doubles, triples, home runs, and stolen bases in a season. -

The curse of the Billy Goat
The Curse of the Billy Goat is a sports-related curse that was supposedly placed on the Chicago Cubs in 1945 when Billy Goat Tavern owner Billy Sianis was asked to leave a World Series game. When the goat got home, it knocked the heating lamp over to cause the Chicago Fire. The Cubs have not won the World Series since. The goat's name was Murphy -
