    Galileo Galilei
    Full name: Galileo Galilei
    February 15, 1564 - January 8, 1642
Claim to fame: Obtained a patent for a machine to pump water from a river for the irrigation of land. He found out that 10m was the limit to which water would rise in the suction cup.
Claim to fame (Age): He was in around in his late 30’s or early 40’s.
    Death (Age): 77 years old
Interesting fact: When Galileo thought he had discovered multiples Saturns,he kept his finding hidden by encencoding it in an anagram.
  • Otto Van Guericke

    Otto Van Guericke
    Full Name: Otto Von Guericke

    November 20, 1602 - May 11, 1686
Claim to fame: Guericke invented the first air pump, in 1650. An air pump is a device in which air or other gases may be removed from an enclosed space. Through his invention and other vacuum experiments, he contributed to the basic principles of the physics of fluids and gases.
Claim to fame (Age): 48 years old
    Death (Age) 83 years old
Interesting Fact: Otto von Guericke invented a machine that produced static electricity.
  • Evangelista Torricelli

    Evangelista Torricelli
    Full Name: Evangelista Torricelli
    October 15, 1608 - October 25, 1647
Claim to fame: He was best known for his invention of the Mercury barometer.Mercury barometer is used for measuring atmospheric pressure. Barometer can also be used to measure altitude.
Claim to fame (Age): He was at around the age of 35 when he claimed his way to fame.
    Death (Age): 39 years old
Interesting fact:Torricelli was the first to provide the scientific evidence of the cause of wind.
  • Blaise Pascal

    Blaise Pascal
    Full Name: Blaise Pascal
    June 19, 1623 - August 19, 1662
Claim to fame: IPascal invented the early calculator. He also validated Torricelli's theory concerning the cause of barometrical variations in 1640s. In the 1650s, Pascal laid the foundation of probability theory.
Claim to fame (Age): 19 years old
    Death (Age): 39 years old
Interesting fact: Even though Pascal didn't attend high school or college, he was well taught by his parents.
  • Christiaan Huygens

    Christiaan Huygens
    Full Name: Christiaan Huygens
    April 14, 1629 - July 8, 1695

Claim to fame: Huygens made important contributions to mechanics. He stated that in a collision between bodies, neither loses nor gains "motion'' (his term for momentum). He studied elastic collisions in the 1650s but delayed publication for over a decade.
Claim to fame (Age): 31 years old
    Death (Age): 66 years old
Interesting fact: Huygens discovered one of Saturn's moons and later named it Titan.
  • John Dalton

    John Dalton
    Full Name: John Dalton
    September 6, 1766 - July 27, 1844

Claim to fame: Dalton’s atomic model is one of the fundamentals of physics and chemistry. He hypothesized and partially confirmed the theory of atomic composition. He also discovered that certain gases only could be combined in certain proportions even if two different compounds shared the same common element.
Claim to fame (Age): 37 years old
    Death (Age): 77 years old
Interesting Fact: John Dalton and his brother were born color blind.
  • Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregna e di Cerreto

Lorenzo Romano Amedeo Carlo Avogadro di Quaregna e di Cerreto
    Name: Amedeo Avogadro
    August 9, 1776 - July 9, 1856
Claim to fame: He is most noted for his contributions to molecular theory. Avogadro's law is an experimental gas law relating volume of a gas to the amount of substance of gas present. He proposed that equal volumes of gas at the same temperature and pressure contain the same number of molecules.
Claim to fame (Age): 35 years old
    Death (Age) 79 years old
Interesting fact: Avogadro is said to be really honored to appear on an Italian Stamp.
