    Charles Darwin was on the HMS Beagle in the British Royal Navy as a naturalist. During this voyage he collected samples of plants, animals, and fossils. He traveled to Brazil, Chile, and Argentina.

    During his return to England Charles studied his samples and notes that he took on his voyage. As he studied his samples of animals, he started to question how species evolve over time. This is what made him believe in natural selection. This means that animals of a specific environment pass down through their gene's slight changes to how the species is made. Things that help them adapted to the nature around them.
