    Thoroughfare Gap Charles Cummings wrote to his wife say that he heard heavy canonanding in the direction of Centerville and Thoroughfare Gap almost continuosly. Their was fighting in that direction. He said that 30,000 troopshave moved from vancitiy of Chain Bridge in that direction today. The battle near his camp must of been really close because he heard the cannons. I wonder if he was transferred since he was so close.

Where I am, our business is to take care of bridges over Cedar Run and Walnut Run to protect the railroad. It seems like they are setting up a plan.
