    The process of making paper started in China. They used rags as the raw material and this is important because we use paper all the time, even though how we make it now has changed drastically compared to how they did back in 105.

    Manuscript Transcription

    These are handwritten documents which were usually on parchment paper. They would write books or scripts on paper and it is a way for us to understand history in their stories. This was one of the ways for them to communicate

    Gutenberg Printing Press

    The printing press was invented to make paper production much faster and more efficient. They could print things like books, card, and posters.
  • 1510

    Pocket Watches

    The first pocket watch was invented in 1510. This was important because before these, they could only tell time by the sun. Now they have a set time for everyone and it is as close as their pocket.
  • Public Education

    This is very important because to this day, this is how we receive an education. In 1600 they started putting up schools all over so people could attend, and now there are thousands all over the world for kids to get an education.
  • Blackboard and Chalkboard Slates

    Blackboards were used in place of paper as a way to save money. They were erasable and convenient. Chalkboards were also a great invention because it was a way to present information to a large group where they were all able to see what it was that the board was showing, rather than just explaining with words or passing a piece of paper around for all to see.
  • Books

    Books are important because it was a way of story telling for others to read and also a way to keep track of history and important events that others wanted to share.
  • Audiovisuals

    They started using audiovisuals in school as a way to improve comprehension and retention. When your sensory experiences are stimulated, you are more likely to retain information.
  • Film Strip Projector

    It was a form of still image instructional multimedia, teachers used these to display lessons and work through problems where all were able to see.
  • Overhead Projector

    This was the next best piece of technology teachers had after the film strip projector. It was used as a way for students to develop a better understanding of the lessons being taught.
  • TV

    Philo Farnsworth was the inventor of the world's first TV. It has changed a ton throughout time and it keeps changing even it todays time.
  • VCR and VHS Tapes

    The VHS was developed by Victor Company of Japan in the late 1970's. They are used for video home cassettes back in the day and we have now passed this era and use TV's and our cellphones to record and document our lives.
  • Mind maps

    Used for graphic designs to diagram various concepts. Visual method for recording thoughts and ideas. We still use mind maps but not as often as we used to. These have also been adapted in todays world.
  • Audio tape

    It was introduced in Europe and invented by Philips. It is an analog magnetic tape recording. Some have more slots for disks than others but we do not use these anymore.
  • Microsoft Word

    Former Xerox programmers who were hired by Bill Gates were the creators of Microsoft Word. The very first Word that came out was the 1.0 in 1983. Many still use Microsoft Word but it has been updated a ton since 1983.
  • Computer Age

    Tim Berners-Lee was one of the first people to successfully set up the first web server. He started by making a "hypertext" system which was the beginning of the computer era.
  • First SMART Board interactive white board

    It was designed to function for a viewing screen for a large audience. These are used in schools, meetings, and lecture halls all around the world now.
  • Blogs

    The first blog created was by a Justin Hall, it was called Links.net. When he created his blog, it was not called a blog when he had made it, but in 1997, the term "weblog" was made by Jorn Barger.
  • The Digital Age

    The digital age used to not be so digital as it is in today's era. It started out with house phones, then flip phones, and now iphones. Technology in the digital world is constantly changing day to day.
  • Interactive age, laptops, SMART response

    The very first laptop was released in 1981, it was called the Osborne 1. It didn't even have a battery. Laptops have played a role into our interactive age because almost everything that we do both in and outside of school is based off of technology and SMART response and laptops. As students, we would not be able to get our own homework done now a days without a laptop.
  • Digital Satellite Radio

    Sirius Satellite Radio was the first radio to ever come out. Since then, they have assigned frequencies for satellites to broadcast for car radios and to homes.
  • Electronic Voting

    The first election which used voting electronically was in 2000. They wanted to start being able to record votes electronically to make it more efficient and they believed it kept information more private.
  • Nintendo/Video games

    Video games became very popular around 2006 when the use of technology was on the rise. People started playing virtual games through TV's and Nintendo's and were able to connect with others around the world through the game.
  • Touchscreen Cellphone

    In January of 2007, Steve Jobs announced that the very first iphone was being released. An iphone is a touchscreen cellphone that you are able to use almost anywhere. Iphones have only continued to grow and become more popular over time.
  • 3D TV

    John Baird was the inventor of the 3D screening. He was able to use electro-mechanical and cathode-ray tube techniques to make things on a television appear 3D.
  • Smart watch

    Apple Inc. released its smartwatch in 2015 and the product went viral almost immediately. Its intent was to make receiving notifications and messages easier. With a smart watch, you wouldn't have to take your phone out of your pocket.
