    European's had started coming to North America searching for for gold or land, and religious freedom. This had started a parrer of immigrants coming to the United States from other places around the world.

    In 1775 the Revolutionary War had began.
    In 1776 the Colonies proclaimed their freedom in the Decleration of Independence.
    In 1783, the United States had won the wae against Great Britian and became a new nation.

    The Decleration of Independence declared Freedom from Great Britian. American's had feared the abuses of power. America set up a weak governement. The leaders had realized that the governemnt was too weak to run a country. America wrote the Constitution. The Constitution had divided set up three equal branches of Government. The legislative branch was the one who makes laws.The executive branch is led by the preasident.
    The judical branch settles disputes about laws and incllides all the courts

    A period during which societies in Europe and America became industrial and urban. Prior to the Industrial Revolution, which began in Britain in the late 1700s, manufacturing was often done in people’s homes, using hand tools or basic machines. Industrialization marked a shift to powered, special-purpose machinery, factories and mass production

    President Taylor died July 9th. Taylor's vice president was Millard Fillmore. Millard Fillmore took over after Taylor had died

    Franklin Pierce was inaugurated as the 14th President. Pierce signed the Gadsen Purchase Treaty on March 4th. U.S. acquires border territory from Mexico for $10 million on December 30th

    Some American's wanted to end slavery and some didn't. The northern states were the free states and the southern states were the ones with the slaves. In 1860 Abraham Lincoln became Preasident. He hated slavery. Eleven southern states had sceeded from the Union, which formed the Confederate States of America. The Civil War had started in 1861

    World War began in Europe, most Americans had wanted to stay out of fighting. Germany sank a number of ships which killed U.S. civilians. The United States joined the war in 1917 and helped the allies to win it.

    Was a worldwide depression in the decade proceeding World War II.
    The great depression started in 1930's and lasted till late 1930's or middle 1940's

    The dust bowl was severe dust storms severe drought and a failure to apply dryland farming methods to prevent wind. The dust bowl happened during the Depression.

    The cold war was beteen the United States and the Soviet Union it last for much of the twentieth century. Mutual suspicions, heightened tensions and a series of international incidents that brought the world’s superpowers to the brink of disaster. It lasted from 1947-1953.

    The Islamic extremist group al-Qaeda hijacked four airliners and carried out suicide attacks against targets in the United States. Two of the planes were flown into the towers in New York City, a third plane hit the Pentagon just outside Washington, D.C., and the fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania. Often referred to as 9/11, the attacks resulted in extensive death and destruction, triggering major U.S.

    In 1803, the United States purchased approximately 828,000,000 square miles of territory from France, it stretched from the Mississippi River in the east to the Rocky Mountains in the west and from the Gulf of Mexico in the south to the Canadian border in the north. Part or all of 15 states were eventually created from the land deal, which is considered one of the most important achievements of Thomas Jefferson.

    America became the first nation to use nuclear fission and developed the first weapon using this technology. Harry Truman’s decision, in 1945, to use it on the civilian population of Japan, the only serious threat to Allied safety at the time, remains extraordinarily controversial, but it did its job: putting a final end to the mightiest, deadliest war in human history.
