    Rise in the number of new goods and sevices as well as an expansion of the middle class as a result of economic growth. Economic growth separated the rich and poor apart more, and industrailization made the cities more crowded and unsafe working conditions. Progressivism made problems that aroused a spirt of reform.

    Ida Tarbell
    She was mad at John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Company because they made her go bankrupt. She went to Allegheny as the only female student of 40 boys. She started writing and was labled a Muckraker later in life.
  • The Muckraking Press

    The Muckraking Press
    Theodore Roosevelt gave a speech that descibed a man with a muckrake who "fixes his eyes...only on that which is vile and debasing'. Muckrakers are investigative journalists and its names that bacause they "ranked up" and exposed the muck, or filth, of society. People say "muckraking was what the people wnated to hear".

    The Triangle Shirtwaist Fire
    500 employees rose from their work tables and left. Soon a fire erupted in a rag bin. 140 people died from the tragic event. 60 people jumped out of the windows to their death.
  • Reforming City Life

    Reforming City Life
    More than 50% of the Amarican people lived in urban areas. City's were having problems like protection, fire fighters, jobs, and waste managment. People were dying from fires, robberies, and sickness.
