    This was a debate about what free and slave states should be put in the union. This compromise let Maine in as a free state and Missouri in as a slave state. If they would have tipped the balance of the states. They handled this in Washington D.C.

    Leading up to the Civil War Wilmot Proviso was a major conflict. Part of a 2 million dollar bill to help the Mexican-American War. This passed the House but failed in the Senate since there was a greater representation of the south.
