Jan 23, 1854

Congress passes law that slaves can't have fair and speedy trial. North made laws which negated the Fugitive Act

Bleeding Kansas

May 24, 1859

The name for the massacre in Kansas due to excess fighting for Kansas terrority to be a slave state or free state

Election of Lincoln

Mar 16, 1860

Lincoln won but with less than half the popular vote. Recieved free states support but lost support of South due to feeling they had no political voice

South Secession

Dec 20, 1860

After Lincoln wins election, Southern states break away from Union forming Confederacy

Firing at Fort Sumter

Confederate soliders take hd of Fort Sumter due to it being in Union's control but belonging to South. Lincoln didn't fight gave food to soliders while Davis fought back
