    The 1st Battle of Bull Run took place on July 21, 1861 near Manassas Junction, Virginia. Gen. McDowell headed the North and General Beauregard South. This battle was known as the first battle of the civil war. The victory went to the south which gave the south more confidence and shocked the north. Many northern realized war would not be as easy as they had thought.

    The 2nd Battle of Bull Run also to place near Manassas Junction, Virginia. This battle occurred from August 29-30 in 1862. General Pope headed the northern army and general Jackson headed the southern army. After a day of fighting Jackson drove Pope out of Virginia, thus ending union treat in Virginia.

    The siege of Vicksburg took place from May 18, 1863 - July 4, 1863 In Vicksburg, Mississippi. The commanding officers of this battle were Gen. Ulysses S. Grant and Gen. John C. Pemberton. This battle resulted in a union victory, thus the confederacy lost one of their major strongholds. Also as a result of this battle the union successfully split the confederacy in half.

    The battle of Gettysburg was fought from July 1 to July 3, 1863. Its concidered to be the turning point of the Civil war.The commander of the south was still Gen. Lee, but again the north had a new commander, General George G. Meade.After three days of firece fighting Lee withdrew his army back to Virgina. Resulting in another Union Victory.

    The surernder of Appomatax courthouse took place on April 9, 1865. The main generals of this battle were General Ulysses S. Grant General Robert E. Lee. This was a very important battle because it was the last battle in the civil war. General Lee surrendered on April 9.
  • Assassination of Lincon

    n April 15, 1865 Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth at Fords Theatre in Washington D.C. This attack came only five days after the end of the Civil War. Booth created a plan to throw the government into utter chaos. When it came down to the final moment the coconspirators assigned to kill Johnson and Seward failed to complete the task. Johnson soon took over Lincolns position as president.
