Catching Fire starts off with the winner of the Hunger Games, Katniss Everdeen. Ever since she won the games, she, her family, and Peeta Mellark (who also won in the arena) have had much fame and have recieved many things from the Capitol. Katniss misses her old life though in District 12 as part of her hunting more. Soon, Katniss recieves a visit from President Snow of the capitol. He was not happy about her plans in the arena and he tells her to show more love for Peeta since people love it. -

After Katniss was done seeing President Snow, she, Peeta, Haymitch, and the crew were getting ready for the tour around and interviews around the other districts. Peeta was mad at Katniss and Haymitch for keeping secrets between them only. When they were at District 11, an old man was shot for showing his honor to Katniss. Then, Katniss realizes that she has to marry Peeta in order to save her family and district. -

Peeta shows Katniss his paintings of what happened in the arena when they were in the games and Katniss was mad at him for showing her because she wants to forget all about it. Peeta was confused at first but he paintes them because he can't get them out of his head and he has nigthmares about it. Later, they went to a party and they ate many types of food and Katniss and Peeta danced... -

During these parts of the book, Katniss finds out that there is an uprising in District 8 meaning it's complete madness and violence with everyone. So she goes to visit Gale and the woods to talk to him about something; she asks him if he would run away with her but she means as in her family and his and Peeta and his family. He doesn't like the idea so he goes off. She soon asks Peeta the same thing and he agrees. She then sees Gale being whipped in town for "a crime". -

Katniss continues to help Gale recover from being hurt. Peeta also comes to propose to Katniss. Then, Katniss tries to leave District 12 through the wire fence since she likes to go hunt, but she realizes that the fence was turned back on so it was now electrical. Katniss soon becomes injured badly and she wants to figure out more on District 13. Then, she finds out something big, they are putting her back in the Hunger Games. -

When Katniss finds out that her and Peeta are back in the games, she is really upset about it. She is even more upset when she finds out that Darius is their avox and Katniss and Haymitch absolutely hate Darius. Katniss has been having nightmares about it all. During her training, she has gone to many stations until she is put at one which is the fire station and she believes that she isn't good with it. -

Katniss and Peeta are going into the games. Since it's the seventy-fifth Hunger Games, they made it "special" by putting past winners back into the games. When the games start, Katniss runs off to the water and swims far until she reaches the Cornucopia and Finnick becomes her ally. People from distrcits have died and then a fog soon approaches them, but it effects people and changes them. It even effected Peeta but they all became better after the harm of the fog. -

During the games, Katniss is worried about her family since she believes to hear them in pain. Katniss and Peeta end up getting out of the Hunger Games after Katniss destroyed the arena. She was sent back to District 13 only soon to find out by Gale that there is no District 12 (where she lived).
