Fortunato injured Montresor in some way. Montresor would most likely want revenge.
-
Montressor found Fortunato drunk and weary. A perfect time to strike. Montresor greeted him as a good friend. They conversed about Montresor obtaining Amontillado, that intersted Fortunato. Montressor continued about how he was going to Luchesi to see if it was real, and Fortunato said no he would do it.
-
Montresor took Fortunato home to find his servents gone, to his liking. He knew they would leave if instructed not to. Montresor took Fortunato to the catacombs leading him in with more whine.
-
Montresor loored Fortunato down, and down to his vaults. Kept him going with the thought of Amontillado, and giving him Medoc. Montresors plan is happening perfectly.
-
Once down to the vault Montresor chained Fortunato and rushed to the entrance to start closing the doorrway with masonry tools/supplies.
-
As Montresor stacked the wall up layer after layer he saw Fortunato helpless and was possibly having doubts seeing him there. But it didn't last long as Montresor put the last brick in place, and said In Pace Requiescat. (RIP)
-
Fortunato was chained behind a wall not to be disturbed for a long time. In all Fortunato was killed on the thought he was going to test some whine. Montresor would live on with the thought of his vow of revenge being fufilled.
-
It has been half a century since Fortunato was destubed. Montresor may not be convicted, but it won't change what had happened. Montresor got his revenge in the perfect crime.
