    The Quebec Padlock Law was an act put in place by the Quebec to prevent communist propaganda. This act prohibited anyone from propagating communism or bolshevism through the printing, publishing or distribution of newspapers, periodicals, pamphlets, circulars, documents or writings.

    Igor Gouzenko was a cipher clerk for the Soviet Embassy located in Ottawa. He was found with documents that said Soviet agents had infiltrated everything from the Canadian military to the Atomic Energy Research Program.

    The Soviets blocked off the Western allie's railways leading into the ally portion of Berlin to prevent supplies from going into the area, potentially giving the Soviet's control over the city. The allies responded to this by creating the Berlin airlines which flew supplies into the city. Canada played a part in taking ownership of this airline.

    The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) was created as a group of countries who would help eachother out if any of them were attacked. Canada was part of this organization.

Canada supported USA in the way selling them ammunition, napalm, etc. Many Americans went up to Canada during the time of the war to avoid being conscripted into the war. This sparked alot of controversey.

    The Suez Crisis was a crisis between Eygpt on one side and French, Britin and Israel on the other. The conflict was about the Suez canal, an artificial waterway in Egypt and Britain, French and Israel wanted control of it so they launched an attack on it. The UN pushes pressure on the 3 countries to withdrawl. Lester B. Pearson, the Secretory of Externial Affairs of Canada helped put a cease-fire plan in affect and it was succesful because of it.

    John Diefenbaker was a Prime Minister of Canada. He was most known for his indecesion in whether or not to put nuclear warheads and bombarac missles in Canada because the USA pressured him to. This eventually led to his downfall in government.

    Sputnik was the first space satelite to orbit the Earth and it was launched by the Soviet Union. The even triggered the space race. The space race eventually inspired Canada to create Canada's Space Program.

    The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) is an organization controlled by the US and Canada which air space warning and defense for the 2 countries if they are attacked. It was developed because nuclear missle attacks were considered a threat at the time. They made the Distant Early Warning (DEW) line. Which gave the 2 countries early warning in case there was a nuclear attack.

    The Soviets wanted to put nuclear missles in Cuba but the USA didn't like this idea because the nuclear missles would be so close to the USA and they decided to put a blockade around Cuba. The Soviets weren't happy about this so there were several confrontations at the blockade between the Soviets and the US. The Soviets went as far as to shoot down a U-2 plane. Canada was supportive of the US's position during the crisis. The conflict was eventually resolved.

    Canada and the Soviet Union faced eachother in an 8 game hockey series. There was a great deal of nationalism at the time of the hockey games because they were done during the height of the cold war. Canada ended up coming on top, winning 4 games, losing 3 games, and tying one game.

    The Berlin Wall finally goes down due to mass protest in Eastern Germany (the Soviet controlled side). Countries like Canada and the USA support this event because it frees people in Eastern Germany from communism.

    The Soviet Union collapsed into 15 diffrent countries. This finally ended the cold war, leaving countries like the USA and Canada in rejoice.
