The fire was used as evidence by the Nazis that the Communist were beginning to plot against the German Government. With the arrest of Communist the seats were empty and that's how Hitler got power. This was important because Hitler Rose to power and created WWII.

Bud's mother dies, and he is put in an orphanage. Bud has a suitcase with his belongings. In it, are a picture of his mother and a flyer to help him find his father.

The Cash and Carry replaced the Neutrality Acts of 1936. This allowed the sale of material to other countries as long as they arranged their own transportation and paid in cash right away.

Bud's caseworker assigns him to a foster home with the Amoses who already have a son, Tod. Tod starts a fight with Bud, and says Bud started it. Because of this, Bud is forced to sleep in the shed with bugs and a mysterious figure.

His friend, Bugs, finds him and convinces him to go on the lam so they can find a place to work and live far away from Flint, Michigan.

Bud and Bugs find themselves in Hooperville while they wait to jump the train. While they are waiting, Bud meets Deza Malone and they have their first kiss.

After he missed the train he starts heading off to Grand Rapids to find his father.

After Bud misses the train he begins mapping out how long it takes to get to Grand Rapids. It will take him about 24 hours. At that point, it is 2:30 a.m and he sees a truck driving by and he has no clue who it is, so he hides in the bushes. The man lends him a ride down to Grand Rapids, so Bud takes the food and goes with him.

Bud meets Mr. Calloway who does not want anything to do with Bud. However, the rest of the Dusky Devastators take him in.

Bud gets a ride from Herman E. Calloway. Bud shows him all of his belongings such as the flyer and the picture of his mother. Herman finally starts to believe him.

Bud continues to live at Grand Calloway Station and he becomes a member of the Dusky Devastators of Depression with Herman E. Calloway!
