Bud was Born
Living with his mother in a house that the mom grew up in. The dad doesn't live with them. He abandoned the mother and Bud when Bud was born. The mother had to take care of Bud. -
Mother Dies
Mother dies from being very ill. Bud was only six years old at the time. She didn't supper or anything just didn't wake up one morning. There was no medicine to help her. -
Bud goes to an orphanage
Bud is forced to live in an orphanage because of his moms recent death. He has no relatives to take care of him. So then he has to be put in an orphanage. He doesn't like any of the kids in the orphanage because the kids are bullying him. The people that are taking care of him make him sleep in the shed at night because he got in trouble earlier. There are all kinds of animals inside of there and he didn't like it so he burst out of the shed and ran away. -
Going to the North Side Library
Bud ran to the North Side Library to see if Miss.Hill was there. Just as he got there he was asking some people if they have see Miss.Hill turn out that she isn't there right then.The other librarian was taking her place while she was gone. She told Bud that Miss.Hill was in Chicago. He wanted to see her so bad but Chicago was so far away from where he was and he didnt have any money for a bus ticket. -
Bud was hungrey
The next day Bud woke up feeling very hungrey because he hasn't ate in a couple of day. They had a thing there that fed the people that couldn't afford food and it was called mission. The people could start to line up at five and then the line would close at seven and Bud came at seven fifteen. The man said in front of him the line was closed and Bud was on his knees begging to let him in on the line and the man kept on saying no. Then a man comes and make up a story that his son is Bud -
Riding the rails
Bud met up with one of his only friends at the orphanage. By where he was sleeping. His name was Bugs. Well thats what everyone called him.Bugs was telling him about a way to get to Chicago faster. The way was to ride the rails. They had to make some stops on the way to Chicago but it was the fastest way. Bud agreed on doing it with him so in a couple days they went. They first stop was Hooperville which nobody new about. -
Hooperville
When the train stopped at Hooperville Bugs and Bud got off. They saw some people at the top of this hill and decided to walk up there. When they got there was a big fire there and about 20 people were sitting around it.The people greeted them and asked if they wanted some soup that was just made in return they had to clean all the dishes. Without them even finishing want they were saying they already said deal to them. After they were done eating they went down to the river to clean the plates. -
Chicago
The next day was the day to get on the Chicago train, but when they got there was cops guarding the train so no one would get on. Finally there some many people there that they out numbered the cops by a ton.The cops just let them threw. There was only limited time to get on and so much space on the train. The train was going to fast by the time Bud was trying to get on he couldn't catch up to where Bugs was on the train so he just let it go.There wasn't another train coming until a long time -
Going to see his Father
Bud was thinking to go and see his father for the first time. It was a long way to go, but he thought it would be worth going to. He living in Flint or anther name for is Hooperville and his dad supposely lives in the Grand Rapids. The people there said it would take about a day to walk there on foot. So Bud though about it for a minute and then agreed on going. -
Walking to Grand Rapids
A couple of hours into the trip it was dark and Bud was very tired. A car pulled up next to him and he hid in the bushes. A man came of of the car and was saying he would give Bud a sandwich and a soda if he came out of the bushes and told him his name. So Bud did because he was so hungrey. The man asked him where he was going and Bud said Grand Rapids. The man asked if he need a ride there and Bud said sure.Bud got in his car and they began to go.When they were going Bud fell asleep in the car. -
Waking Up
The next morning when Bud woke up he was in a bed. The man introduced himself and it turns out his name was Lefty Lewis. Lefty asked if Bud was hungrey and Bud said he was starving. So he took Bud and his two grandsons to this breakfast place. He told Bud to eat as much as he could and Bud was happy to hear that. Bud said I thought you were taking me to Grand Rapids Lefty said i wanted to get something in your stomach first. -
Arriving at Grand Rapids
When Lefty and Bud were driving to the Grand Rapids they saw many thing on the way there. When they arrived there Lefty wanted to talk to Buds dad because Buds dad was know around that area. Then Bud made an exuse why not to. Then Lefty took it and drove away. -
Meeting Buds dad for the first time 2
Finally Herman walked off to a back room. After that all the guys there were asking him a bunch of questions. When Herman came back out he asked if Bud was hungrey Bud said yes. So Herman said i will buy you some lunch and after all of us are done eating you will tell me the real story. Bud agreed on that. -
After eating
Herman agreed on lettng Bud stay in his big house. Then in the morning they all woke up and Bud told him his story. They at the end of the story that Bud told Mr.C asked what Buds moms name was and Bud said Angela Janet Caldwell. Then Mr.C went up to his room and was crying. Mrs. Tomas that was there she told Bud the reason why he was so mad and it was because that was his daughter and he never even new that she died. Nobody ever told him and he never found out. Mr.C is Buds grandfather really -
Meeting Buds dad for the first time
As Bud was walking in he saw a group of guys sitting there talking to each other. The one guy asked if he need something and Bud said i came here to meet my dad for the first time. All the guys looked at each other in shock like who father is this kids. They all said no this isn't my kid.Finally Bud pointed to the person he thought was his dad and said Herman E Calloway. Everyone looked at him and he said I am not your father. They kept on going back and forth on saying yes no yes no. -
Ending
Bud will travel with the band on every trip they take now. He has a new family now. The band put together money to buy Bud a trumpet. Then is a while Bud will be so good that he will be able to play in the concerts with the band.
