First Open Tournament
On 10 March 1898 Mr. Percy Buckley, Secretary of the Guildford Badminton Club organized the first-ever Open Badminton Tournament (open to players from other badminton clubs). This tournament was held at the Drill Hall in the center of Guildford and was a one-day event with only doubles being played. -

IBF Formed (International Badminton Federation)

Commonwealth Games
Badminton was introduced as a Commonwealth Games program sport in Kingston Jamaica in 1966 and has been part of every Commonwealth Games program since then. Initially all five disciplines were included – singles (men, women), doubles (men, women) and mixed doubles with the Teams Event included in the program in later Commonwealth Games. -
